Great looking bucks! My cell cams are down in 3 spots right now due to a home camera issue, but I still have one up and running. Mostly exotics and pigs as of late. Bucks are in bachelor herds elsewhere on the ranch right now.

In a short amount of time, that protein will do its job and he'll being practicing calisthenics on your feeder

Edit to add another pic just now of one doing pull ups

I haven't seen any of our true elk as of late on camera but they're around. We just have mutts running around for the most part, although that stag is no slouch for free range.

No, those are all from north of San Antonio near Bergheim.

We've got a pretty nice young buck

And finally funky buck has shown back up, or his off spring.

Pretty cool split brow tine

Not sure what location this is, but just wild seeing green grass as high as the feeder in mid July.

Haha. That's a bad mofo.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Those nest cameras look amazing. Are those WiFi? Or are those nests just close enough to your network?

I've been exploring the idea of building elevated solar powered remote relay node enclosures with a battery and an access point so that I can send WiFi from my barndo using ubiquity nano stations / nano beams and then put HaLow or WiFi cameras all over the property. Getting out of the cellular data plan subscription business would be nice.

We ran wifi extenders ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGBZTP4N ) out into the woods connected via a few hundred feet of ethernet cable to the shop building and buried in a shallow trench. We mounted them up in trees and are using power over ethernet to power them. The cameras are connected to solar panels at each location to keep them charged. If you go over about 200' of ethernet cable you can add inline power boosters to feed the power. The extender has about another 200-250 yds of range beyond wherever it is mounted.

Nice!

So you hardwire the access points a few hundred feet, PoE needs no battery or solar, and those access points give you a few hundred yard radius for nest / reolink / ring / or any WiFi camera?

I don't really want to trench and bury cable, but might be easier than constructing something that needs power and line of sight to broadcast to. I wonder if that could work for me - I might want to go further than a few hundred yards- with thick woods and some elevation change.

I've been looking at gardepro HaLow cameras- if I can install and power an access point and the hub out remotely, I can get possibly get WiFi waayyy out there.

Love this thread.

I do not and have never done game cams. Not sure why I just never have. I guess I just watch threads like this and get a good idea of what I am dealing with.

I decided to put a reveal on my pond dam last month just to see who crosses there.

Turns out a ton of whitetail and coons do. But these were the most interesting so far: a well fed puppy in June and a hungry little kitty cat a few days ago.

You got it right. We just took a little ripper tooth on the back of a tractor to pull a trench about 6" deep. You are just burying skinny outdoor ethernet cable. We only have a little over 50 acres, with most of it being live oak woods and a little topography. With two access points plus the house and shop, we can cover about 15 acres of it. You can also add inline power boosters to the ethernet cable that will get you beyond the couple hundred yards ( https://www.fastcabling.com/product/300-meters-direct-burial-poe-ethernet-extension-kit ).

The house and shop are circled in red, the water feature I show videos of is circled in blue and the free choice feeder is the green circle.

Sweet set up.

I'm paying annually for four tactacam data plans. I'd love to relay and mesh the WiFi I also already pay for and be able to put way more and way better cameras all over the place with zero subscriptions.

I might just put a gardepro HaLow hub by my barndo and put gardepro HaLow cameras all around that radius and then just keep a few cellular cams at the farthest areas where HaLow won't reach. But if I can build a remote access node at the top of a hill centrally on the property, nano beam the WiFi to that, and put the HaLow hub there, there's a chance HaLow cameras can reach from anywhere on the property. Or, if I can cheaply build these remote relays, I can daisy chain a handful of them on the property and put WiFi cameras like nest or reolink anywhere I want.

But who am I kidding? I won't have time to experiment with any of these ideas. Haha.
