What line would you recommend for this reel? When I bought these originally I can't remember what line I got but I figured you guys would have some great suggestions.

Mono backing with a heavy braid? Also, can't go wrong with some Berkley trilene big game. About 15lb.

What will you be throwing primarily with that reel?

I run spider wire braided in my bait casters - I've read a lot of hate on it over the years but it's always been great for me.

I'd come back to this question. I've always liked Stren mono if you don't want to do braid or fluoro. For braid I've also used spiderwire in the past, but the PowerPro Super Slick or Suffix 832 are noticeable improvements if you're willing to spend a little more.

Nothing wrong with Stren mono. I still use it on most of my bass fishing rods to this day.

Seaguar is good stuff. I used to fill up the spool with braid, then after talking to a guru down at the Tacklebox in Victoria, started putting down a good mono backing and only 100-150 yards of braid on top. Makes the spool of braid last a lot longer.

Mono for top water. Flouro for finesse especially in clear water. Braid for cover.

Those are my two favorites as well. 30lb test.

If you go braid, don't get anything thinner than 30#. Its too thin and will dig.

I had 40/50# last year on a jigging reel and a shark or king picked it up and started dumping line and I couldn't loosen the drag fast enough and the line dug and pop! There goes $20+.

Ditto, if it's one setup for everything, I'd just go with standard too. Clear or green works just fine for East TX.
