Woodlands location is shut down. Didn't make it.ttha_aggie_09 said:
I haven't been to the Killens original location but was not impressed with the Woodlands location.

The Killen's in Pearland is damn good.ttha_aggie_09 said:
2M is solid. Their Mexican flare on the sides is great - especially the street corn casserole.
Didn't make to the Burnt Bean yet but hope to soon. Houston area favorites:
Truth
Corkscrew
Pinkerton's
Tejas (haven't been their in 5 years or so)
I haven't been to the Killens original location but was not impressed with the Woodlands location.

I office one block from Burnt Bean in Downtown Seguin. Still haven't been because of the line, that is now even longer than before. An employee went on his day off. He said that he started the line at 5am and soon had people behind him. Average wait is 4-5 hours.

Anyone know of a decent BBQ place in or nearby El Paso? We are there fairly regularly and usually just eat at Ft. Bliss, but I'm willing to go off our beaten track a ways for some good brisket.
Living in AZ has a lot of upside (for us, anyway), but good BBQ isn't one of them. Or good seafood, for that matter....

I'm pretty sure both Woodlands Killen's Steakhouse and Woodlands Killen's BBQ are gone.TexAgBolter said:
I think you are thinking of the steakhouse that closed.

Yes, since it's Texas Monthly, everything has to be quirky just for the sake of being quirky. A lot of stuff like "miso-infused" and "kombucha-glazed" seem to make them giddy. I'm an originalist though.
Or good mexican food.Caladan said:

When I lived there back in 2003-2004, Stateline was the only halfway decent place (pretty sure it was Stateline - same area you are talking about).redaszag99 said:
When I used to spend a ton of time in El Paso 15 years ago we always went to Stateline BBQ near the Sunland Racetrack in NW El Paso. It is the same as county line that was around the Texas Metro areas. The one near Tomball/Spring has closed. There is also a County line in ABQ.
Then Rudy's opened and my clients were thrilled and loved the place. IMO you can't beat Rudys for basic BBQ.
There appears to be a ton of "craft" BBQ places around these days.
Not mentioning Corkscrew or Killens or even Pinkertons is kinda....well, it is what it is I suppose.gonemaroon said:
Persons on this thread already mentioned it's just an advertisement for new places.
In Houston in no order the best are Truth, Feges, and Pit Room. Disclosed I have a small investment in Feges, but as it is explained Texas Monthly pops in, if you are having an off day you are toast. BBQ places have off days, get off cuts of meat, etc. and then you are toast.
I didn't read the entire write up but for example I think they said Feges is in a office complex, but 3-4 years ago now they build a stand alone in Houston and it's fantastic. Their burger is top 5 in the city. And Feges has free Veteran's meals on Friday for lunch - ownership is top notch and associated with A&M via yours truly.
But those are my top 3 and I didn't see Pit Room on the top 5 list either which is laughable, those boys rock.
Thanks for the list of BBQ places. Which one(s) do you recommend?BurnetAggie99 said:Caladan said:

There's rolling smoke BBQ in Anthony, TX. 15 minutes north of EP. In EP there is desert smoke bbq, hallelujah bbq, & Tony's bbq.
