This state has the Best BBQ in the world! TM does a great job with there lists. Constantly updating and judging new and old joints.

I hit all 50 on the 2017 list and have the passport and the yeti merch to prove it.

Hit as many of these as you can.

Well worth your time and money.

While the OB is the king of knowing stuff, here's a great thread on the food board discussing BBQ joints. Just go to the bottom and flip through pics if you want to be hungry.

Burnt Bean in Seguin was #1. Franklin's not in the top ten.

You can read the whole article without a subscription. The gist is everyone makes top notch brisket thanks to Franklin. Sides and joints putting their own unique spin on the typical menu is what sets places apart and gets them a spot on the list. Seems like the majority of the places on the list are established in the last 5-10 years. Not many old school places.

Yes, since it's Texas Monthly, everything has to be quirky just for the sake of being quirky. A lot of stuff like "miso-infused" and "kombucha-glazed" seem to make them giddy. I'm an originalist though.

I office one block from Burnt Bean in Downtown Seguin. Still haven't been because of the line, that is now even longer than before. An employee went on his day off. He said that he started the line at 5am and soon had people behind him. Average wait is 4-5 hours.

As cowtownag06 said, go to the food and spirits board for a much longer thread about it that's been going for years.

For you olds/technology challenged that can't navigate a paywall, here:

A future tip is take any url, and add "Archive.ph/" in front of the http and you are good to go.

And also, in before "no bbq is worth waiting for and I cook better briskets in my backyard"

10 posts in and no one has said they are upset that "my backyard" wasn't on the list therefore the list is invalid

The list has become more an advertisement for new places that do the en vogue fusion style cooking than anything else the last several years.

TM also has the BBG Finder App on the App Store.

All of the joints are on there.

Believe it or not, if you have the location service turned on, it will give you your exact mileage from each joint.
Pretty handy.....

Old army vs New army.

There's only so much content that a publication can create about wood, fire, and meat.

Snow's and Louie Mueller haven't changed anything in decades but still make the list.

Bacon burnt ends were considered innovative back in 2017. Pretty much put Heim BBQ in Ft Worth on the list. Now lots of restaurants have them on the menu.

Everyone should be able to make a brisket the "right way". It's the sides, atmosphere, and other items that separate the pretenders from the contenders.

Enjoy the variety.

Cattlelack is very good.

I tried the Waygu brisket last time I was there. Very good not great. Not really worth the premium price, more of curiosity than a necessity if you eat there.

Millers in Belton remains great, and they have been for years.

Glad Rosslers made the list, they are darn good

TM is a magazine, they create content that people will go out and buy. If the list was the same year in and year out, nobody would buy their magazine and the hype and drama associated with a Top 50 list simply wouldn't be there.

It isn't any real secret, most of the places are damn good - but there is going to be a rotation of top joints simply because marketing says there needs to be.

My claim to fame is that we were in a BBQ cook off with Burnt Bean last year and we won 1st place brisket. There may have only been 25 teams, but I'll always hang my hat on that

This is from the Texas Monthly BBQ passport book in case anyone wants to mark them off.

They lost a lot of cred with me, when they started making it about sides. Where does Snow's rank? There's my answer on if I think they are worth listening to anymore, or not??? I've had Lavaca, and it was OK, but it wasn't Snow's good. My tech acquaintances do swear by Evie Mae's though. I'll give them that.

Rosemeyer and Corkscrew, both in Spring, are absolutely legit.

Rosemeyer is literally in a trailer on the side of the road and is fantastic. Free beer while you wait too.

My buddy dragged me to Rosemeyer a couple of years ago because he knew the guys. It was work the trip. I believe Corkscrew has a Michelin Star so I imagine that lines has gotten even crazier.

There's not any BBQ in the world that's worth my time and money standing in a line waiting 3-5 hours. All these lists do is create so much hype, which in turn creates these stupid wait times.

There's plenty of great BBQ out there without trying the latest fad artificially created by TM. But……….thats the world we live in now.

Cackle and Oink in Sherman is fantastic. Little hole in the wall Memphis-ish style. Their ribs and pulled pork are fantastic.

Although I prefer it not get on any list so it doesn't get stupid busy.
