Several species of birds rub ants over themselves to secret formic acid. This, in turn, rids them of mites that the birds have on them. This is called "anting". Grackles are one species that do this.

Poison dart frogs make their poison from certain types of insects they eat. In captivity they aren't fed those insects so they are safe to handle.

A narwahls horn is really a tooth. Usually only the males have it and sometimes they can have 2.

Giraffe have 7 vertebrae in their neck just like humans, theirs are 10" tall though.

Hippos scatter their poop with their tail as a warning or to mark their territory.

When males of the deepsea anglerfishes metamorphose from larvae to juveniles, they begin to "sniff" the water, searching for the scent of a female. When he finds a female, he bites her, right near the anus -- and never lets go. In some species, the female's circulatory system unites with the male's, and the male becomes little more than a sac of sperm. Now that's the life!

Their thermostat essentially allows them to go much hotter before they have to utilize water to cool themselves off. Therefore conserving a ton of water

Not all female home sapiens spit. Some swallow. Probably an oddity among the animal kingdom, with cougars being the exception.

I actually killed mine with a .270. The same people that you used on your hunt (wonder where you got their contact info ) weren't real keen on bringing along the old bleed-more for an Oryx

Camels can do the same. Horses joint design of their knees and hocks and also the configuration of their leg muscle groups has evolved to powerful forward and rear movements and limits sideways kicking.

Surprised nobody put this one:

In winter storms cattle will put their rump to the wind and walk away from it, while bison walk head first into the wind.

To add to fullback44.

Porcupine quills are hollow, like feathers, and add lots of buoyancy to them for swimming. The quills also have tiny barbs on them that act like tiny blades and fish hooks to hold the quills into the animal that gets stuck. These barbs can cause the quill to bury deeper and deeper as the stuck animal moves around if not removed.
These barbs quills also naturally have an antibiotic lipid on them to prevent the porcupine from getting an infection if he sticks himself.
It used to be thought that if you snip the end off the quill that it would let the air out of it causing the barbs to retract some….but there is no real evidence of that according to some vets.

Actually that's not limited to just Scimitar's. The entire oryx family including Gemsbok, etc have all the same adaptations. Addax, different genus than Oryx, also has the same ability.
They have specialized blood vessels around their brains that act like oil coolers in a vehicle to help cool the blood to the brain in the high heat.
They also retain water because of their specialized kidneys as they produce highly concentrated urine to conserve water.
All these features not only helps them survive the extreme heat in their native lands, but has served them well on exotic ranches in the hill country of Texas where it doesn't rain anymore.

Giraffes also have a network of tiny blood vessels beneath their dark spots. When blood flows close to the surface under these "thermal windows" heat is release to keep them cool on the hot savanna.

Bears can sustain a fertilized embryo in utero for months because they are largely solitary and range so far. It will aid in pregnancy probability.

When they hibernate, the embryo implants on the unteran wall and begins to grow in early November every year. When cubs are born during hibernation, their back legs are actually immobile so they can't crawl out of the den, then in early summer their leg joints pop into place and they are ambulatory as hibernation ends.

Anyone who has hunted exotics in Texas or elsewhere, has probably experienced hearing the deep nasal guttural "pig snorting" noises Fallow bucks make when they are in rut.
Fallow bucks have a unique anatomy of their vocal cords, larynx and windpipe. This anatomy gives the mature males an ability to control the length of their larynx which causes the nasal guttural noises to deepen in pitch.
These snorting sounds are used primarily to attract females but are also used to show how dominant they are within the herd.
These snorting sounds are unique to the individual Fallow buck and can convey to both males and females the status of the buck in the herd, his age, his size, his strength and stamina, and physical fitness status ( like amount of fatigue) …..all influencing mating capability and success in breeding.
So the next time you hear the nasal pig noises of a Fallow buck in rut he is telling the whole herd about himself rather vocally.

A baby kangaroo is born after 33 days and then has to climb up the mother and finds it's way into the pouch. From there it will latch on to get milk and continue growing. If the baby falls while making the trip it can't recover and is lost.
