You could use the stripper clips to load the detachable box magazines either on the carbine or off the carbine or if needed could load the detachable magazines one round at a time.
M14's and M16's had stripper clips to load the detachable box magazines as well.
ETA: Other U.S. military longarms that also used stripper clips were the M1917, M1903, M1903-A3 and M1903-A4
The M-14 actually had a stripper clip guide as as well.
And US .mil issue ammo for the M-16/M-4 comes on stripper clips, with a guide for loading it into magazines.
Now, if you want to get really obscure, the Mauser C96 and Steyr-Hahn pistols used stripper clips.
ETA: I had to look up photos, but the M1903A4 can't use stripper clips. The scope mount is in the way. Since it can be single loaded, it's not offset like the M1D.
