I think the most shocking part of the apology is that someone was willing to marry him.
or that he has a "friend" who is an attorney

Based on his record I assume he's well connected to a lawyer
and their "friendship" is retainer deep

this letter is like trying to turn a crap sandwhich into a crap burrito. It is still crap. His 15 prior arrests pretty much speak for themselves to what kind of person this guy is.

Having to be the point man in my fishing boat company for dealing with both freshwater and saltwater guides in handling their promotional deals for almost 40 years….. I have had to deal with personalities like this a few times.
Fortunately we did a pretty detailed vetting process before offering a promotional program to them and I only had a couple of "bad apples" in my career.
We used to call them "Comet Guides". They were bright
and drew lots of attention at first, but eventually faded away.
Thankfully they are relatively rare… as most I have worked with are hard working honest fellows who enjoy helping people have a good time and truly enjoy sharing their talents and have a true passion for fishing.

Sadly saltwater seems to attract quite a few "Bro's" like that guy. Seems like it always has and always will. Growing up around the coast and working on various private and charter boats in my youth, with time spent living in the Keys and out of the country I have seen countless guys like this idiot.

Invariably they always seem to either flame out, crash and burn, or run afoul of the law. I will venture to speculate that this guy is trying to live the alcohol fueled version of a character from a Buffett tune. It is mildly tragic to witness.

Thankfully nobody ended up hurt and a damaging video is all that is left. Capt's like this one damage the recreational fishing/boating industry and get people hurt. In the late 80's through the 90's Texas had its share and FL was rife with them. Seems like they are still around. Avoid them.

The rise of land based shark fishing as a budget alternative for big fish has brought them out of the woodwork.

Theres some really great guides and teams, but man there is some absolut trash out there. I'm only in my second season doing it( LBSF, NO desire to guide anyone), but have definitely run in to mybshare of them already

Oof, Pathfinder boats put out on Social Media that they have no relationship with this guy, including his full name.

I have sort of an off topic question.

My kid is in his mid twenties now, so I'm not around a ton of teenagers, but is that a normal amount of "bros"?

I was almost rooting for the guide after a while! Just kidding
I think "bro" is like "dude" in this situation.

It's a non-cuss word cuss word.

If he jumped in my boat that's exactly how I'd describe my day on the water. Cast and blast.

That's an expensive boat and motor. If he is that famous of a guide as he says he is …good chance he is getting a promotional deal from someone. Guides and pros don't buy boats retail if they are good. Unless they are wealthy.
No exaggeration….i would field a call a week from a guy who was going to be a guide or just won his first couple of tournaments and was going to turn "Pro".
They always told me how good they were, how much "exposure" they would get for us, and how many boats we would sell because they were running our boat brand.

I hold a 100 ton Masters Captains license. A big problem i see is that someone with certifiable mental disorders is issued a Merchant Mariner Credential by the US Coast Guard to be able to run charters for hire on coastal waters.

Boss, I hate to relay this to you, but the "they" that you mention have always been out there, just that with cell phones and social media they have become more noticeable. I am sure you are professional, prepared, and safe and that will go a long way towards a successful career guiding, be it on the water or on land.

I lived on the north side of 7 mile bridge on Lower Matacumbe Key for a while, and we would go out to the bridge to fish and what transpired on that video was about a twice a day occurrence back then. The guides/captains out of Robbie's fought rec boaters and each other like the Coyote and Sheepdog in the cartoons. It was comical. FL is not for the faint of heart boater.

The dumbass in the video posted has NO business being a for hire Captain on the water, FL is overrun with 6pack warriors that border on constant negligence.

I steer clear of the asshat guides, and will never be involved in guiding at all...definitely not my bag.

The spike in LBSF has just given rise to a new wave of dbags thay ive had to interact with unfortunately.

Statement from the Attorney for Captain Brock Horner

As both Brock Horner's attorney and his friend, I want to address the recent video that has circulated widely online, showing an intense exchange between Brock and a young man named Gage.

First and foremost,

Brock sincerely apologizes to Gage, to Gage's family, and to anyone who was frightened or upset by what they saw. He is deeply sorry. What began as a moment of frustration and concern escalated in a way it simply should not have. Gage handled the situation with impressive composure and class, and that level-headedness helped prevent things from becoming far worse.

Brock is not proud of how he acted. But it's important to remember: we are not the sum of our worst day. That video captured one momentnot the whole of who he is.
Since the video went viral, Brock's business has been destroyed, his reputation damaged, and his family-including his wife and mother-have been harassed and even threatened. Some have gone so far as to question his military service and accuse him of stolen valor.

Let me be clear: Brock is a decorated combat veteran who was severely injured in Afghanistan. He served honorably, earned multiple medals, and suffered a traumatic brain injury in combat. He is recognized as 100% disabled by the Department of Veterans Affairs. That's not an excusebut it is part of his story. He stood up when this country asked him to, and that service deserves to be respected.

We live in a time when online outrage can quickly spiral into personal destruction. But just as Gage showed grace in the moment, l ask others to do the same now. Let's hold people accountablebut also give them room to grow and make amends.

Brock is committed to doing exactly that.

-Scott Weinberg, Attorney for Captain Brock Horner

As the saying goes, if the law isn't on your side, argue the facts. If the facts aren't on your side, argue the law. If neither the law nor the facts are on your side, pound on the table. Or in this case, make the best **** burrito you can.

I would think 100% disabled would be dead and 99% disabled would be barely hanging on.

I had a POS cousin that was in the Coast Guard. He was stationed at Galveston and was drunk one night riding his Harley down the beach and hit a log.
Messed his back up and they gave him 100% disability
He sucked off the gov tit for the next 30 years while he hunted, fished, rode Jet Skis, Scuba dived, rode horses. and such at his lake house.
While we all worked our butts off and pay taxes.

That attorney had to be like "Really!? Again, Brock...!?"

He had a tough one to write in front of him, but the whole "not the sum of our worst day" doesn't resonate considering the rap sheet.

lol I had the exact same thought on that part. Overall, a pretty impressive job of wordsmithing by the attorney but yeah your friend is a POS.

Has anyone confirmed his claimed military service, including Rangers?

He had 4 separate arrests before his 19th birthday, including felony battery, theft, dealing in stolen merchandise (same arrest as the theft), carrying a gun at a high school, and misdemeanor battery.

I feel like that maybe isn't the background of an individual that would be invited to Ranger school.

I was surprised he went there as well. I realize he's probably trying to deal with the social media backlash as much as anything, but yeah, I think that acknowledges that he was clearly intent on violence.
