Did the Hughes amendment close the register for machine guns or just allow the ATF to stop collecting taxes on the registration of new ones?

I think there is an excellent legal case to be made that the ATF has to open the register, as there is a requirement for the bureaucracy to collect taxes.

I don't even care about the refunds for tax stamps from past suppressors/SBR's. I really just want to be able to walk out with one the same day as my gun.

If I can pass a background check for a firearm, I should be able to pass a background check for a suppressor on the same check and walk out with both.

Suppressors should actually be hanging on a peg hook down an aisle with all the other firearm accessories like magazines, iron sights, slings, etc.

We can basically thank Hollywood for our current suppressor dilemma. Ever since the James Bond movies came out in the 60's, Hollywood has perpetuated the myth of the "silencer"….with the bad guys grabbing their "silencer" screwing it on and shooting up everyone with just the sound of a Daisy Red Rider BB gun or less.
The uneducated American public has lapped those scenes in movies up for decades, forever imbedding the mythical thought of the silencer.
And the leftist and gun control zealots don't want to be confused with the true facts.
