Yes, I should've included that and my email is in my profile.

Most of the ones we do are for developers, who either come across this kind of thing or have old oil wells on the properties there are developing. They want some level of comfort that they are properly plug & abandoned and want them lowered six or 8 feet below grade.

If there is some question on the P&A status or they want a little more comfort, we can even put data loggers on the Wells to record pressures for a period of time to show there's no fluctuation.

Would be happy to help.

RRC GIS Viewer

Zoom in to the property and see if anything shows up on the RRC database.

Groundwater Data Viewer

Do they same for the water well database.
For a long time the water well drillers reports only asked the driller to identify which quarter section the well was in and that they hand draw a map of where it was. When it came time to digitize the locations from the old forms, most of those got located in the center of whatever quarter section the well driller identified instead of attempting to decipher the map. So before the date when they started asking for lat/long or utm coordinates, most of the old wells are very poorly located at best on the digital mapping systems. Not finding it on those viewers doesn't necessarily mean it was never registered with the state.

With land prices flippers are afraid of delay in purchase, I guess. It would be nice to have answers. We did not have a problem buying the land and some as yourself may not care either.
My initial feeling is if it ain't right make it look bright and plant roses around it.

RRC has no record.
RRC has been regulating O&G wells since the early 1900's If they don't have a record of it then I'd lean toward it not being an O&G well.

This is bad advice

Just because the RRC has been around since the 1900s doesn't mean they know of every OG well that exists.

You think every well that was installed in the early 1900s was documented correctly and plotted accurately in the RRC database?

You think that's a well for the early 1900's. I did not give any advice, I gave my opinion based on 12 yrs experience in the patch and having never seen a well head like that. Of course a company could have cut corners and just left an old well like that.

Trying to sell a piece of land but have had several rejections due to an old well site. Have had RR commission out and have done quite a bit of research with no avail. Well guy says it is a water well. Possibly with what looks like a house water faucet valve but with a 10 inch casing? An old timer says he remembers a wooden derrick there but not so sure about that. However who knows what was done there 75 years ago.
What can we do?

OP give me a call. I have a friend that works for Magnolia (formerly EnerVest) that have a lot of wells in RTC. He said he could check with them for you. Contact info in my profile

I have the pleasure of using the TWDB site almost daily for work looking for wells. I can confirm the above. The really old wells almost always never show up on the viewer map. And even if they show, probably don't have a ton or information or a well report.

There is a database that contains a lot of the old well reports for those not mapped. Unless you know some specific information (original owner or company, grid numbers, etc) it's a waste of time searching the files. Been there done that, and never again.

Yep. And since many of the forms for the old wells are not digitized, just scanned as images, searching by key words or addresses is not always effective either. I have had the pleasure of searching for old well reports to tie to known wells many times and it is usually very tedious and frustrating trying to match them up.
