They're objects. Dont let them take too much real estate in your head or heart.

If I never sold a gun, I wouldnt have half the stuff I do now.

Worth considering how easy a specific gun would be to replace before you sell given our idiotic import laws, but beyond that, sell it if you don't use it and don't like it, and buy stuff you will use.

Dont let possessions own you.
Nahh, going to disagree on this.

Some of them may fall into that category, but there are plenty I own that will never leave the family because of what they are.

I probably have two dozen handguns that I keep for absolutely no reason. I changed my daily carry quite often and never considered selling the old ones. Probably have several P365s and Hellcats that haven't left the safe in years. Probably time to make room for something new.

I have said this before and I wish I would have had it on page one.

I used to be one of those 'never sell' people until my mother died in 2021. There were a few things I wanted to inherit, but my mom stuck me with two 27 foot Uhauls full and notes about how and why I shoujld keep it. It was so much stuff that I doubt I ever completely finish going through it all. But once I got it under control I had zero desire to keep anything.

To the point about guns, I realized one day that if I wanted my two kids to care about the 10 or so old family guns, dont burden them with a bunch of guns you don't and they won't care about. If you want them to care about the old Colt don't give them 30 other pistols to deal with. If you do they won't care about the Colt.

I have cut my collection by about 2/3rds since then. Done a lot of two and three for one deals. Last year I came to CS and sold four and bought one. That kind of stuff. Last month I went through my current collection with my now 13 yo son and showed him the family guns that are never to be sold, a few that I like and actively use, and then the rest. I told him to do decide which way he wanted to take the collection and he said he wanted a 6.5 grendel with a suppressor. So, I sold a S&W revolver we agreed could go and bought a Alexander Arms 6.5. Now we have a 700 Classic to sell for the suppressor.

Now he owns the collection.

Last, don't let your kids inherit 30 random black fantastic 9s and expect them to care about anything else.

In the last few years I've pretty much sold off all my gun safe queens, the ones too pretty to take into the field. Of my sons and grandsons only one so far has any interest in guns and he collects old ones, doesn't shoot or hunt.

In my life I've sold two guns that I ended up missing and replaced. A Ruger Super Blackhawk, and a Marlin Guide Gun and now I've sold the replacement for the Guide Gun. A few years ago I said I have enough guns and I wouldn't buy any more. But it seems every year I end up making an exception to that.

I like guns.
