After looking on the web and not finding what I'm wanting, I'm now here asking for y'all's help. Currently I shoot a 270 WSM. My first rifle that was bought for me in the early 2000s as a kid when everyone thought it was the newest and greatest ever. Now I'm shelling out 60 bucks a pop for a box of ammo. That's beside the point though.

I'm looking to put on a decent scope up top. Currently I'm rocking a Walmart bushnell 3x9 from the early 2000s. It gets the job done but I'd like to take the next step and get something a little nicer. We're looking in the 250-350 dollar range. Its primary use will be Texas hill country with shots not longer than 200 yards. Thoughts?

Leupold Freedoms would be a decent step up without breaking the bank.

The Rudolph 2.5-15 that I do would be another step but very cool.

I'd also look at Burris...

But what budget are you really going for?

I'm hoping to stick to 250-350 dollars. I know that limits some stuff but kid number 2 is on the way so funds are tight. We went hunting last weekend and I just couldn't stand this bushnell any longer so here I am.

NM, I saw the budget... I'd look at something like a Sig Whiskey3 3-12x44 or a Leupold Freedom 4-12x40

For the money I'd consider

I've shot out to 800 yds with its bigger bother.

What has been suggested above or buy something used.

Your price point is PERFECT for the used market.

Some may not agree with me, but I can't beat a used VX1, VX2, or VX3. I have all of them, I even got a VX3HD and VX3i for around $350 or less. Check ebay, but also check some other forum classifieds like 24hourcampfire.

Most I find on forums are indistinguishably used condition. Most don't even have noticeable ring marks. The long time posters and sellers are usually very good about being honest about any damage or marks on them and they will photograph so you know what you get.

The only thing I don't do is buy from someone with less than several hundred posts, and always try to make sure someone can vet them. Buying online comes with risk.

That's the route I would go. I would personally go used over a new Freedom any day. I'd have to touch $600 in the new scopes to get something that i can tell the difference on over a used VX2.

As mentioned above some of the message boards will have decent scopes that someone is selling. Texasbowhunter.com comes to mind.
