I'm curious if anyone is having problems with their fall garden.

I transplanted some nice cabbage plants the end of October i got at a local nursery and they havent done anything. They are still green but for being in ground for a month i swear the leaves have not grown a quarter inch.

Next i transplanted some Texas Legend onions 2 weeks ago. the area around my garden is fairly open and as windy as it was last week the top soil kept drying out. the top tip of the leaves were turning brown, guessing maybe wind burn, so i was watering lightly every other day. As of yesterday it looks like about half the onions have turned brown and just layed over.

I fertilized the whole garden when i did my big fall tilling the end of october before pulling the rows.

I also planted some spaghetti squash from seed the end of october that has been doing very well and have multiple green squashes set but now those leaves are starting curl and turn brown.

I'm torn on what to do. I'll take some photos this evening

Could it be from all the unusually warm weather?

Are you on a well? Had similar issues and it turned out that the salt content of our well water is off the charts. Trying to collect rainwater to irrigate with, but it hasn't rained.

All good points

When we had the armageddon freeze my onions were probably 18 inches tall and I cut all back down from the freeze and all grew back up

Man, yall plant onions early. I don't usually put mine in until end of January.

As for cabbage, It's definitely been warm but that shouldn't matter other than making my lettuce bitter early.

If you did fertilize your cabbage, I'd just be patient. You have to remember that when you transplant, there is a lot of time and energy that goes into the plant growing roots and settling in.

Summer veggies aren't going to be doing well right now in my opinion. I always plant zucchini and cucumbers but you need those established well before now. It's too cool and wet. My zucchini will get several good pickings but by now they have succumbs to powdery mikdew. I just let them go. Cucumbers don't usually grow well for me in the fall when planted too late. They get 18" tall and brown and curl and then die. I try to keep my vegetables in the proper season.

weird fall for me. carrots usually are fickle and take up to 3 weeks to come up, got them sprouting in 1 week back in early october. earliest ive planted them. didnt hardly get iceberg lettuce to germinate which is usually most reliable.

I've gotten more selective in my fall garden. Tomatoes are wrapping up. Cucumbers always get destroyed by aphids in the fall but do fine in the spring. The cabbages and kales have the same issue so I gave up on them. No reason to grow vegetables if there is so much poison on them you can't eat them. I just planted my onions and I've really come to enjoy them. Easy (usually) and something that stores well.

One strange issue I had this fall: I planted three celebrities and three German queen tomatoes. The celebrities are loaded and coming off just in time. The German queen tomatoes are 5-6ft high and I am just seeing my first tomato and there is no way it will be ready before the first freeze. I know they are an heirloom but I'm blown away at the poor pollination rate.

Here are the baby cabbages that look identical to when they were transplanted over a month ago

The nutsedge and winter weeds are starting to come on strong unfortunately so I will have to do a lot of cleaning again when it dries out.

Like I mentioned earlier the spaghetti squash is producing but the leaves have started to curl brown the last 10 days or so

I planted about 475 onions about 10 days ago and they are doing pretty good so far. I got 2 pepper plants in pots that are struggling but throw a pepper off every couple of weeks. I will probably repot and move into the green house next weekend and see what happens.

Just my 2 cents. Once it gets dry enough you should cultivate. That rain pounded soil doesn't allow oxygen in. Also, another tip - after you row up, use a hoe and cut 6" into your row and sprinkle fertilizer in the row and cover back up. Tilling fertilizer in usually dissipates it too much. Also, make sure you are getting 6-8hrs of sun.

I should not be picking cherry tomatoes on December 31st, but here we are. That filled a one gallon pitcher, and came from one plant.
