We went this past summer and we also frequent 30A. The sand/water is nothing close but the vibe is very similar. We really liked the fact that everything is on-site restaurants, shops, events, pools, etc.). It's pricey (I think $500/night for a one bedroom with bunk nook), but it saved us net 6 hours on the drive. If my MIL didn't have a house for us to stay off 30A then I think we'd definitively return often. I would recommend springing for the golf cart (6-seater even) as you can take it everywhere on-site and also onto the beach.
