Howdy Ags!

I'm back again on the OB looking for some outdoor-oriented civil/structural engineering students who are up for an adventure. Look at the videos linked below to see why this post is OB material. Last year's recruitment efforts were a huge successwe had 4 Aggie Civil students join us in Alaska!

  • 2 students worked in our Bridge Design Section (where I manage a design team) and traveled the entire state for bridge inspections.
  • 2 others joined our Construction Group in Ketchikan, taking on coastal construction projects.

Texas A&M represented incredibly well last year, and I heard nothing but praise from all the engineers who worked with them. One of last year's interns is returning to our office this summer, and the other has graduated, which means we have one spot to fill in Bridge Design. As I did last year, I'll also forward other strong applicants to our Construction Group for consideration.

About the Bridge Section Internship:

This role offers a well-rounded experience, including bridge design, load rating calculations, and plan/shop drawing reviews. But the highlight? The bridge inspections!

You'll travel across Alaska, sometimes on small planes flying through mountains and over glaciers to reach remote locations. You'll gain invaluable engineering experience while exploring some of the most stunning landscapes on Eartha dream summer for any outdoor-loving civil engineering student.

This is an amazing opportunity to combine hands-on engineering experience with the adventure of a lifetime. Thanks, and Gig 'em!

When I retire, can I be an intern for the summer?

I would have loved an opportunity like that back in my day.
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

this is exactly what I was thinking. I prob would have never come back given a summer spent working in remote Alaska

This is pretty much how I ended up here. The internship was awesome and being a structural bridge engineer in major cities who never saw field work or visit construction sites got boring after 10 years. I had the taste and always wanted to go back. Finally convinced the wife and we've been here 11 years now.

I can't believe students aren't beating down your door for this opportunity. Alaska is such a beautiful place. It's hard to describe until you see it in person.

Sitting here trying to figure out how to convince my wife, kids, and current employer to put me on sabbatical for this opportunity.

Math degrees and ABD engineering PhD. Plus I've driven from Anchorage to Fairbanks and along the Denali road to Mile marker 92, ANCH to Seward, ANCH to Valdez and ANCH to McCarthy and Kennicott so I know the roads.

Pick me! Pick me!
