I used to have a very hard time around 11/18. I mean a hard time. Harder than I should considering my own limited involvement in bonfire. For years I couldn't even talk about it without crying. Never could tell my kids about it or anything. And I have been through my fair share of ****, not more or less than an average person, but my share. But man bonfire used to break me.
For the record I did not work on bonfire at all that year. I worked the 4-8 shift at The Chicken that night, went home to study, then went to bed. I got a call around 4:30am and was at stack by about 5:00
Seems like the night this litter was born I was able to finally make peace with it. I can still tear up a little bit, but now I can talk about it. I can tell my kids about it. I finally took them to the memorial a few years ago. I know longer want to fight people who talk bad about it. etc. etc. And I can watch and support student bonfire today.
Those were all great litter but this one changed me.
