There's something cathartic about running over a mound with my mower then hitting a million of those devils with spray just to see them flopping around in their death throes on my next pass.

I probably sprayed 150 mounds and went through 8 gallons of Bifen XTS mixture mowing 5 acres today. This time I added Tekko Pro IGR to maybe help keep them at bay as this is probably my last mow for a few months as the the ground is going to be a little soggy pretty soon.

Just thought I would share my hatred of them and my joy of committing ant genocide on a scale not seen since the days of Mao.

I knock the top off and then spray them. Hold the tank between my feet on the zero turn and it works pretty well.

A pear burner is so inefficient but so satisfying.

I use Spectracide One Shot on the mounds as well. The jug is very convenient to sprinkle.

My tip is that you gotta take the fight to them. Meaning, you gotta fight them off your property if you want to keep them off. Go walk the common areas, anything you can access around your property andmake that the battle ground. If you wait until you see them in your backyard, you are too late. Much easier on my suburban half acre, but I think you get the point. And, I like the bait granules. The white powder is great, but it always seems a mound pops up six feet away in a few days.
My oldest is mucho allergic to fire ants, so I am always on the hunt.

Yea my wife is allergic too so I'm on it as much as I can be. There is raw land on three sides of me so they are completely unchecked in that regard unfortunately. Most of the stuff I have used on mounds over the years seems to only do like you say and cause the mound to relocate. Bifen XTS kills the mound dead.

I tried extinguish at a different house but that only works when they are out foraging and I don't have the scratch to spread that on my whole property.

I use a Spectracide concentrate, I think it's for carpenter ants and termites, but it kills the crap out of the fire ant mound. I mix it up in a gallon milk jug, jam a steel spike deep into the mound, pour it down the hole to get to the eggs and underground ants, and splash it on top to get the escapees. They are not happy.

If you know someone with applicator license, Top Choice is lights out and provides year long control. I apply every spring and have no ants while everyone around me fights them year round.

It sounds like you find satisfaction in the destruction of your red nemesis, so I won't deprive you of that. When you lose the will to fight and no longer wish to find your adversary on your 5 acres, try the agent of eradication that is Taurus SC. Gone for a year.

I have this fear of mowing over them, the air catches them and blows them all over me.

I put the deck exhaust up against any pile against a tree to blow it apart and did that probably 10 times and got a grand total of one ant on me, so you're fears are probably unfounded. Outside of that one ant, there was never another on me.
