Headed out for the annual trip for pheasant quail and maybe sharpies. It's just me this year, and my dog. Everyone else bailed I just couldn't keep Maggie out of the field she's 9 so don't know how are many left.

Going to what we call the big field to start the AM

1st field put up 4 hens no roosters. 2nd stop was just a row of plum trees and "called" in a spike mule deer. He was cutting the corner of the field i saw him he didn't see me. Raked branches and got him to 50yrds. 3rd field was magic. Over 30 birds put up mostly hens. I think 6 rooster 3 way off flushed, 1 right at my feet and I missed. Then 2 others that Maggie was working and we're within range. I should have had 2 birds by noon. And a good shooter would have had a limt. 4th was a tree row where I final got a bird and lost a quail, covey of 40 plus quail. All went out the backside of the trees

We got a limit. Found some quail, and prarie chickens too but they are flighty

Yes she would be considered a flusher but she hunts the whole time, she has naturally never ranged far. Though sometimes if you get a runner she'll go too. But the ones you loose like that are offset by ones she puts up that you'd walk by. She also gets birdy, tail wags like crazy, so you can read her and be more ready.

She has always struggled to find down quaip though.

She used her nose phenomenally today. Maybe best I've seen

Yesterday was rough. Developed a blister knocked down 4 roosters and only bagged 2. Saw 60 plus pheasant easily. Put up quite a few covey of quail and lost 2 of those too. Also didn't shoot on a covey because I switched to 4s tired of losing roosters.
But not all bad did get some birds bagged. Maggie did good again and helped get birds up.

We are tired and running out of what I call good spots, so going to go until 10-11 today then get back on the road.

Hit the road early today. 1st field wasn't good ground got 1hen up. Second field was all winter wheat except the corner of a cor field about 1/8 mile away. Thus is a very large complex and usually do well here so I was excited with bird numbers so good. No bueno due to wheat not corn. Did get 1 rooster up. 3rd field was 6 hens. 3 roosters they all bailed off a point into a draw 80yrds away. I had chip shots at every hen. Went by 1 more spot and turned south.
