Probably just going to go with a .243 before I get paralysis by analysis.
If you can find a youth model then after your 3 kids grow out of it you can find a takeoff Full Size stock and swap it out.

My son's 700 SPS (.243) with the full size stock is a handy thing with the shorter barrel in blinds.

243 makes a great rifle for a young kid.
Makes enough sound to get them used to the percussion.
Recoils a little, but not too much for them to handle.

Was given a Ruger No. 3 in .22 Hornet at 8. 40 years later, still one of my favorite guns to shoot.

Another vote for a 243. It was my starting caliber as well while in single digit age. Upgraded to 7mm in teens.

I've killed quite a few deer with a 22-250. Very accurate and drops them quickly with a well placed shot.

.458 Win mag to .22 Long Rifle. It's always comes down to proper shot placement.

My daughter killed two deer last year at the age of 8 and one this year at 9. She is shooting my AR shooting Remington Core Loks in .223. All shots have been within 60 yds. Three shots, three short tracking jobs. Definitely need to focus on the short length of pull to make it shootable for youth.

Been running a Ruger Ranch in 300BO with supersonic loads. What made a huge improvement was the Bradley Adjustable Cheek Riser. No more holding their head and not getting a proper cheek weld looking through the scope.
