Dove hunting and staying in Pearsall. Where to eat around there? Usually stay Hondo, may drive Herman Sons one night, but 40 minutes. Anything closer that's good?

Any good bars? Will be watching A&M game, Cowboys and Texans that weekend.

Gracias!

A little off topic, but if you are heading towards Hermann Sons to eat, check out the Mummes Gun Room across the overpass on 90. Impressive. If you want really good food for this area, drive another 15 minutes to Julianna's in Castroville. Alsatian Golf Club. Kind of a haul from Pearsall though. Check their websites to make sure they are open. Funky hours out here in the country.

A second recommendation for Julianna's in Castroville. Place is legit.

1339 Co Rd 4516, Castroville, TX 78009

Jaliscos for breakfast mexican food (chorizo, egg & bean or chorizo egg and potato)
Garcias for lunch/dinner mexican food (chicken envueltos)
Bens taco stand for late night mexican food (the beef or chicken fajita gorditas all the way)
Cow pokes aint terrible bbq
my moms house for anything else

edit to add my menu recommendations

forgot the bars part - there is a new one called full moon saloon. I also think Garcias would be a place you can catch the game. Very limited options on the bar front

If that is the same Jaliscos that in every other South Texas town they are pure slop, worst Mexican food on earth… don't get their beef tacos the meat is something that is ground up and died red, taste like cardboard … breakfast tacos are ok but probably much better somewhere else

Millies in Dilley has good food. They have TVs as well usually programmed to news but you could probably request the games.

Millies is great. Used to pick up food from there when I was working nights in the oil field. I always appreciated that they would make me breakfast tacos at 5 pm. The ladies working there were very nice.

we have had a couple different jalsicos over the years.

this one had been around the longest and their chorizo breakfast tacos are pretty solid. i have not personally had anything other than breakfast there.

still there, just moved down the road a bit

pizza hut burnt down but they are in process of rebuilding

valdez bakery/pizza would get my vote for pizza, but they keep weird hours so its hard to find them open

I ate mostly these giant sandwiches they made. Never tried either pizza or pasta there. Go figure

If your staying in Hondo Heavy's BBQ is pretty dang solid BBQ. Hermann's already been mentioned. Also Vaqueros.

For Pearsall good burgers at The Front Porch. Los Altenos for Mexican. Little Joe's BBQ for BBQ.

Devine has Devine Tortilla Factory. Devine Cafe, Triple C's & Black Creek that are good.

We drive through Pearsall Jalisco's when we are heading south to fill feeders. Their breakfast taco deal is the best (two 3 taco orders are about $10) The tacos are good and large with homemade tortillas. Try the older one near downtown sometime.

If you see Big Piggy's trailer BBQ stand, it is pretty good. But I haven't seen it in a good while. Cowpokes is pretty good on the meat. Don't bother with the sides.

Millie's is always crowded so we have never stopped as we want to get feeders done ASAP. Want to try it sometime.

Hunted Pearsall growing up and there used to be a Mexican restaurant there called the Cactus Bowl that had my all time favorite enchiladas and it wasn't even close. Probably not there anymore but it was really fantastic.

If you like gorditas, Juan's Tacos in Devine makes awesome beef gorditas.

Bingo.. that place is junk, anyone eating that stuff is desperate for bad tasting Mexican food, and they are in every south texas town, my buddy calls it slop.. my mom won't eat the "red" taco meat.. we still want to know what that red colored meat is?

All? It was just one rec by me and I mentioned they were only good for breakfast. Never been to another Jalisco's so can't confirm or deny if they serve the same sludge as other towns.

The only Mexican food place I would recommend anything off the menu is el chaparral in Helotes

You weren't the only one that recommended that swill.

La parrillada is better and I would bet cheaper

They have one waiter who it is hard to tell their gender. Pro tip: it's a guy

Kind of a hijack maybe... heading to d'hanis from SA tomorrow for bird hunting. Would like to pick up 2-4 dozen kolaches/pig-n-blankets/kubisnickies (whatever we want to call them ) on the way along 90... Castroville, Hondo, etc. any suggestions on a good place to get some? I did a forum search, but really didn't find anything. Google showed some places, but would like some recommendations. TIA.
