I went and looked at a place in Pushmataha county today and will be joining the lease. They have 1 spot still open so I thought I would post here in case anyone is looking. This place has been posted on TBH by a well known member there who has had the lease for close to 20 years w his family.

  • $5.22 per acre.
  • 1 spot is still available. Total lease is 1900 acres w 6 total members(5 are filled).
  • Just east of Nashoba, OK(30 min NE of Antlers).
  • Deer, bear, hogs, turkey.
  • year round access.
  • Deer 170"+ have come off of this place.
  • Hilly/mountain timber land just off of HWY 144 w easy access but it is a bit of a drive to the back of the property.
  • Each person gets their own designated area. You can bring a guest or family but they hunt on your tags.
  • The available area is located at the back of the property and has a lot of elevation change. You'd have over 1.5 miles of property line to the north of this area w basically no hunting pressure on the neighboring property(backside of a big mountain w no road access).

  • There is no camp, water, electricity on the property. There's a state park nearby w campsites, RV hookups, showers, bathrooms etc. I believe there's also other RV campsites nearby.
  • it is a rugged place and will not be easy hunting over a feeder but there are some big deer up there.
  • Bears can wreak havoc on feeders if you choose to use feeders.
  • OK nonresident licenses can be expensive so look into that. Total cost was still a bargain compared to my texas lease.

If anyone is interested you can message me and I can pass along the info for the lease manager.

I'm sure I missed some info so post away if you have questions.

Did a job in an area near Antlers, for a wind farm. When we were going through pre-project safety stuff they were like "uhh ya bears are the biggest thing to worry about" working 90% in Texas it was something we had never done before… but we all carried bear spray after that.

the good news is that you're about as likely to be mauled/killed by a polar bear in Oklahoma as you are a black bear.

Check the regs but I think you have to buy a license for each season as a non resident.

License for a NR went up to $700 ish.

I've hunted up there the past 8 years. Correct , license for gun, license for archery, license for muzzleloader. If you want all 3, it'll be $1,503 this year apparently

Yeah this is correct. If you bowhunt, which is what I'll be doing, you can hunt 3.5 months for deer w an archery license. If you want to hunt rifle or muzzleloader you have to buy a separate license and the seasons are only a couple of weeks long. A turkey license is only $10. Hogs are free. For Bear you have to buy a separate license.

Even if I bought every license(general hunting, turkey, archery, rifle, muzzleoader and bear) it would still come out to around $10 per acre all in which is 40% of what my texas lease was.

If all you do is rifle hunt then you probably aren't gonna want to hunt OK. But there's always crossbows.

I'm not arguing that it's a bad deal, but it did go up like 65% this year.

yeah I think it was $400 total for general hunting and archery when I had a lease up there 4-5 years ago.

Youth license I believe is $150 which basically covers all 3 deer seasons so you don't have to buy a separate license for each if your kids are hunting.

And I think if you only hunt deer, you don't have to buy a general hunting license …

Seems that some of the bears move out right before the hunting season.

we have some really nice deer on our property, but they aren't easy to hunt. pretty spooky.

Here's the link to the original thread on texasbowhunter with more info and pics of the area and some nice deer. You may need a tbh account to view the classifieds section though.

I'm just sharing this so Micah, lease manager, doesn't have to post it on facebook or craigslist since this last spot borders my area and I'd rather have another good Aggie as my neighbor instead of some yahoo from craigslist.

Is the land owned by an individual or a timber company. I did a lease near Honiba, OK a couple of years ago. Lots of deer and bear in the summer and looked great. Nobody around. But as it cooled off and hunting season approached, the locals apparently had access and road atvs around the property on weekends. And didn't get any deer or bear on cameras after the season started.

So the place we worked on was just SE of Clayton, OK.

There is a ridge on the property that runs all the way to Arkansas (apparently), multiple times we were working and dirt bike/trail ride guys would drive through without ever stopping. If you looked it up, it is touted as "semi-private trail through Wild Horse Mountain".

Personally, I'd hate that set-up. And you CERTAINLY don't want to aggravate those locals.

the land is owned by a timber company. Actually the property is owned by IKEA's real estate investment group(INGKA).

The manager who has been on the place for 20 years said they have had very few issues with anything like that.

There are no public roads through the property and no public access other than those on the lease. There is a gate at the front entrance. Currently the gate does not have a lock but he said they were probably going to add a combination lock but they have to get approval from the timber company.

The only semi-public road that crosses the property goes through the very NE corner of my area it dead ends up there so no through traffic. I tried to drive my truck up there to check it out access from up there and the road was so bad and washed out I had to turn around.

So you're close to the property I worked on.

If it's the wind farm site, people have access. In reality, I'd say all of that land is accessible by some individuals...

Just personal opinion.

that's the Kiamichi Trail system. It runs the ridge and passes about 5 miles to the north of the property all the way to Mena Arkansas.

looking at the sattelite images i can see the wind farm running in a line due east of Clayton along the ridge top. It is 4-5 miles to the north to the closest tower(the eastern-most tower) and actually appears to be layed out right along that Kiamichi Trail. So yeah I imagine it got a lot of traffic especially with the wind farm keeping the roads fixed up.

You can't see the windfarm from this property as the property is on the south slope of that range of hills/mountains from the Little River along Hwy 144 up into the first hills. If you got up to the very top of the mountain on the northside neighbors property you could probablys see the turbines but this property doesn't go up that high.

If someone really wanted on the property they could certainly find a way to do it.

Yeah, sounds similar to where we were, except there was a gate with a combo lock. Lots of game in the area. There was a "manager" but doesn't seem to have been as hands on as. yours. My initial scouting trips were weekdays in August. As we got closer to the season I went on weekends and it was far busier. The gate was left open and there was a lot of people riding atvs and dirt bikes around. And there was no where to hunt that didn't have a dirt road within a couple hundred yards. Hopefully yours is more isolated.

perhaps we could do a raffle for the spot

~450 acres all yours during the deer season(9/1-2/1)
2000 acres access in off season
chance at 170" deer
year round access
bear, turkey and hog hunting included
friendly locals
beautiful scenery
great fishing across the hwy in the Little River
ATV trails all the way to Arkansas nearby

Hey OP, I have some good friends that wanted to ask you a few questions. They have had a hard time getting some answers in that state regarding land managwment, etc that you seem to have solved. Any way they could pick your brain when you have some free time? Many thanks.

Ok, I'm not exactly sure what all they wanted to ask you but it was something to do with land management companies or ownership in Oklahoma. I will leave an email if you want to send him something short he will reply. Just trying to help them out. Appreciate it. Rustin.watson@gmail.com
