How long do you want to ignore this user?
Somehow, this year is off the chart for fleas on my dogs. What do you use for the yard? How often? Permethrin? Bifenthrin? Spray? Granules? Both?
Washing the dogs with dawn, got Frontline, Capstar...
The property behind us used to be overgrown, probably houses a lot things that kept the fleas at bay or busy but someone recently flipped the property and it's like they all of a sudden found my dog.
Help!

Frontline (fipronil) is junk these days. Step up to nexgard, bravecto, or simparica and continue doing everything else you're doing and your flea problem will likely improve substantially.

OK, went Frontline because they had it at Costco the day I was at my wits end after washing the dogs again. Doesn't bravecto need a prescription?

Doubling up with granules and permethrin spray a good idea? Hit it today for round 2 (weekly)...

All the options I listed need prescriptions. As long as your pets have been to a vet in the past year, they can write you a script.

If you use the topical stuff like frontline, don't use a flea shampoo. It will strip off the frontline and you will be working against yourself.

Tucker highly recommends Bravecto. We get it from the vet. One chewable tablet is labeled for 12 weeks. We have been a month late a couple times with no fleas or ticks ever. Tucker is in tick habitat daily but never gets them or fleas.

My dogs are 4yrs and 5yrs old. They have been on a Nexgard monthly regimen since pups. Have not seen a single flea on either dog ever.
ETA: I live on acreage and my dogs stay outside 95% of the time, so I really endorse the effectiveness of Nexgard. Not a vet, so take what you want from my post.

If you want something OTC Seresto collars are really the only thing I've seen work. But buy at a brick and mortar store as I've seen fakes online. TSC has them. Frontline had been out too long and fleas laugh at it now.
Make sure all pets in the house are on flea prevention that works. Oral options like above mentioned Bravecto, Nexgard or Simparica are great also.
Edited to say make sure you treat the house inside as well, not just the yard.

Seresto is pretty much nails imo. Not knocking the oral meds or topical stuff but my dog seems to have less issues with Seresto than anything else. We live in a suburban neighborhood with eleventy million deer and the best solution we've found is the collar vs the other stuff.
ETA we're only on our second year of using them.

Yard treatment Bifen IT for flea control outside. Mix 1 oz per 2-4 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet.

Also use Tekko Pro IGR in conjunction with Bifen IT: Every 2 months during the warm season. Mix it 1 oz per gallon, per 1,500 sq ft. Tekko Pro IGR will prevent the larvae from proceeding to the pupae stage

One of our dogs is allergic to Bravecto and had a massive face blowup. Both dogs do great on nexguard plus they Mail me a $15 rebate card each time.

This warm, humid weather is flea heaven. Don't waste money treating the yard/house. It doesn't work. Treat the hosts (ie dogs and cats) and you'll be much more successful. There's going to be fleas for 4-6 weeks hatching. An adult code flea medication is what you need. As mentioned, Bravecto/Nexguard/Simparica/Credelio are going to be good options. Capstar could be used, but you'd have to give it every other day. Sentinel would be an option to prevent future infestations, but doesn't kill adult fleas.

If I remember correctly the process I used to tell my customers that had good results. Mow the yard first. The vibrations from the mower trick the larvae into hatching into an adult. Put down a granular pesticide. Don't water it in yet. Come back the next day and spray the entire yard with permethrin or bifen. You might have to spray in a week or so to break the life cycle. I would also spray the liquid pesticide in the hottest part of the day to also knock down any mosquitoes also. Spray shrubs also. Make sure the pets are treated with something

Any bedding the pups lay on sprinkle diatomaceous earth on, I've actually spread it in the back yard to kill fleas and any other earth crawlers. Non chemical, order on Amazon or local nursery.

I had a huge flea problem at a former house. Went nuclear. Sprayed the whole yard with Malithion. It was like a silent spring. No fleas, but also no lizards, no toads, no geckos, nothing. Proceed at your own risk…

Good subject. I wasn't aware about issues with Frontline so that explains a lot. Sounds like it's time to change to an oral treatment. I'm not willing to go nuclear on our 1/3 acre suburban yard because I've run an organic program since moving here 6 years ago and had zero flea issues until this season.

I second that, fleas are terrible this year, been washing the dogs weekly and used a collar for a while, finally got rid of them

Along the dog washing lines in the flea battle and in general, I bought a Waterpik Pet Wand last month. It's fantastic. It makes washing the Beagles so much easier. I installed in the pool bath so it doubles as a wash off for pool guests, me after yard work before I jump in the pool, etc. Highly recommended.

The good doctor above is right. You must treat the host If the fleas have nothing to eat they can't and won't live near your house. I suppose if they are super thick in the yard you could hit that with something as well once you start treating your dog. It won't take long to be completely free from the little sobs.

I'm in the country, so no neighbors pets etc and I give my 3 dogs Nexguard once every 3 months instead of the recommended 1/month. I'm pretty tight. Haven't had a flea or tick in 5-6 years since I started Nexguard, zero.
I don't think you know me.

If you go this route, bring a spare set of clothes with you! Nothing like being covered with fleas from the knees down! Hope your infestation is not too severe

Based on this thread I quit jacking around with Frontline and bought Nexguard. Only a week in and damn what a difference. My pups and I thank you.

This is where I got mine from. It's an Australian company but I know several people that order from here with no problems.
