Yea my cats are hell on lizards and especially their tails as we see a lot of tail-less geckos. They also keep the squirrels at bay from eating from the bird feeders so it all balances out in the long scheme of things. They don't have much success getting to the birds unless they fly into the glass windows and get knocked down and then we have to hurry and grab the bird before the cats do!!

Odd fact: In all my years growing up in Central Texas and working outdoors all over the state (never E of I-45) I've never seen a copperhead in the wild.

Copperheads and motor cycle cops: you can't see them until it's too late.

We have wild peacocks in my neighborhood . I kill about 10 per year mainly in my front flower bed and front porch

I back up to corps of engineers property on north shore of Lake grapevine

Grew up in east tx backing up to words. 0 copperheads seen in 56 years.

And ask my next door neighbor if they aren't really a problem. I forget how many thousand it cost to treat her bite.
And her dogs … and her horses

Clone this farm dog! She is a stone cold killer. Snakes, rats, mice, nutria rats, possums, etc. She was stalking something in this shrub when pictured. She kills and eats her prey!
No idea what breeds are in her dna as she was dumped years ago but was healthy and had been spayed.

I have seen copperheads on the 4th floor landing of an apt bldg. opened the door one morning and almost made the mistake of picking up.

This one is at the back of Reed. Always check your tire pressure.

But, that's not a copperhead…..
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Rat snakes are notorious climbers. Copperheads prefer leaf litter, tall grass, and piles of limbs.

There is a saying if you see a snake in a bush, tree: "High as a hat, it's a rat."

If you look at the patterning on a copperhead, it looks like Hershey's kisses.

True fact: We live next to the Fort Worth nature center and it is a heavily wooded area with our house sitting right in amongst them. We love it here and very quiet and serene with nature and all. Our worst fear when buying the property was snakes. We have always heard to have cats around and you won't have a problem with snakes. Well, after 20 years of living here we have seen 1, yes 1, copperhead. My belief in the "cat theory" has been reinforced ten fold. We usually have 3 cats and all Tabbies and they hate anything that crawls and attacks!! They have never been bitten so we are lucky there. We now have 2 males since one of the cats died and they are still on patrol daily!! Sorry for the long text but I have to share this cool story, especially for cat lovers. One summer night I left my garage lights on and my oldest Tabby, who is now gone to Cat Heaven, was outside making all kinds of strange noises. I went outside and he was circling what looked like a moccasin. He was going round and round that snake and he looked at me like "don't just stand there Kill Him!!" I quickly fetched my garden hoe and beheaded him. It was a moccasin, smelly and nasty. That was one good cat and what a hunter!! He was treated handsomely after now!! Again get CATS and preferably Tabbies!!
I would rather have copperheads than cats.

Well, I like both, but cats should be indoor only, IMHO.

Mark Twain said "When a man loves cats, I am his friend and comrade, without further introduction. If a man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat." He owned 19 cats. Hemingway owned 50. Robert Heinlein was quoted "How we behave toward cats here below determines our status in heaven." Winston Churchill said "Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals." Charles Dickens said "What greater gift than the love of a cat?"
