I'm not a newby to the island. Used to live there, but it's been 20 years. Have been back lots since then.

My family will be there for the weekend, and are looking for a seafood restaurant for a nice dinner to celebrate something significant.

What are your rec's?

We are looking for something nicer than The Spot (which I really like), Nicks, or Shrimp N Stuff. Have done Willy G's and Fisherman's Wharf lots. We did Saltwater once, and it was good. Probably a little fancier than we are looking for with kids, but not opposed to it.

Never done Katie's, BLVD, or Black Pearl- are they worth a darn?

I worked at Gaidio's, and loved it back in the day. But I ate there about 10 years ago, and it was a pale reflection of my memory (they didn't have the Admirals & Captains course menus, and it seemed many of the recipes had changed). Maybe it has gotten better again?

Appreciate any help!!!!

Cajun Greek is the answer for casual. Especially for fried food but they have good food. Waterman's can be good too. I used to keep my boat there. They have a great patio. Food is hit or miss

We love Coastal Grill.
A lot of people like Katie's and/or Gaido's; however, we don't care for either. Note that Coastal is closed on Sundays.

Gaido's used to be THE place for seafood in Galveston. It has definitely dropped off in quality IMO.
We may not always get what we want. We may not always get what we need. Just so we don't get what we deserve.

Never been a fan of BLVD. My parents are LOIs and love it though. Black Pearl is legit IMO.

Gumbo Diner for breakfast.

Buffalo Grill in Evia (over by the golf course) is pretty unknown because it's mainly a neighborhood place. Solid food.

ETA: sorry just realized you clearly specified seafood. My vote is still Black Pearl.

If you want to take the wife out one night or can afford to feed the whole family check out "Number 13" we went there for our anniversary after coworkers told us about it. Probably the best food either of us have ever had. It is not cheap. But we also don't live near large cities to try many 5 star dining. Wre also love Miller's on the sea wall for breakfast. The Moby dick plate with cinnamon and brown sugar coated French toast is great. We never leave galveston without visiting Miller's. Another simple place we want to try is Darlean's shrimp shack, its a food truck with what many have told us is the biggest and best shrimp onnthe island. Good luck and enjoy.

They have a dry-aged steak there that is interesting. If you love blue cheese it's worth a try.

Great restaurant!

I really love the blackened "French Quarter Redfish" at The Shark Shack off the Strand. I have no idea about anything else on their menu, but I think that dish is outstanding! It's a blackened (you can also choose broiled) redfish topped with shrimp and a delicious spicy cream sauce. I haven't been there in about 2 years, so no idea if the quality is the same, but man, the 3-4 times I've had it, it was delicious!

We got 2 boxes of shrimp from Darlean's last night based off recommendations. It was phenomenal! Pretty good price, HUGE shrimp, cooked to perfection.

The plain were really good. We also got Garlic Parm (they do a lot of chicken wing type toppings on shrimp) and they were some of the best shrimp I've ever had.

Will be grabbing lunch there again before we leave

We have always liked Millers but only go once a year when we're down there on vacation so that's not a sample size.

From Galveston drive north 30 minutes to San Leon. Gilhooleys has the best grilled or fried seafood.
But it is a dive and no kids allowed. Lots of shaded, outdoor bar area seating to go along with more limited indoor bar area. For lunch, we get there early as it lets full. Best grilled oysters every time.

My hometown!(parents live 5 blocks away and I have 2 rentals in walking distance). I loved working there in HS and chatting it up with Dusty Hill.

Glad we can be cordial in this forum, Sir. I recommend Gumbo Diner on Seawall or Gumbo Bar on Post Office, next time you are out.

Not sure what you'll attack me for this season in the football forum, but will always give an ole' ag some dining spots on the Island!

Thanks for the rec. I've never had the gumbo diner, but I'll give it a try sometime.

As far as the other stuff, I'm sorry if there is something I said that was out of line. Please accept my apologies.

*Edit to add-
I think I found what you are referencing. I responded to a rookie post you made, which you clearly didn't appreciate. Since then, you have dug up an unrelated post of mine every month or two and brought it back up in a very odd way, passively aggressively questioning my character.

Ok- I was wrong. You clearly weren't a rookie trolling the FB forum. I sincerely apologize for questioning you. You win.

Can we put this to bed now? Or, do we need to meet up and let Gunny sort us both out?
