What is the going rate to work cattle both with and without a horse and/or dogs?

My brother will know this let me text him.. he hires cowboys sometimes when they work all the calves

After consulting my buddies who day work, $225 is the going rate for day work like you describe.

Paying 200 cash in Ellis County. Cowboy horseback.

Anywhere from $200 to $250.

Dang…I know supply/demand and many other factors come into play but that is too cheap. Knowing the cost of fuel, feed, a good horse and labor these guys are likely losing money. But I know many that do it for the love of Western lifestyle and not for the money.

Flip the script… now days, everyone wants to be RIp Wheeler. charge guys $200/ day to pretend to be a cowboy. Get enough signed up and you'll cover the cost of hiring real hands to follow behind them to do the work.

Don't take any lawyers as customers.

$175 in Encinal, but when you need them kinda like a heart surgeon, you pay what they ask for.

The going day rate in Austin, Colorado, Washington and Fayette County area is between 225-300 depending on how hungry some of the cowboys are getting. It's getting harder and harder to find a good cowboy that will show up on time and work till the job is finished. A lot are now asking if you have liability insurance in case anything happens. Beware of your legal liability if something happens when they are working for you.

They also make more money when they haul the cattle to the salebarn.

When working cows it is normally ~8-8 +\-but if the job is done early, pay is the same.

I am surprised to hear it is that cheap. I have been getting paid $200-250 plus meals, no horse by a tight old man I help in Caldwell County.

This year we went to $300 each (3 or 4), because they are damn good, don't slack off on any of the stuff needed to be done, always bring good dogs, and tackle any dumbazz cow(s) or bull as needed.
And inflation.


Plus we feed them lunch.

It depends on whether you are paying first season Jimmy or fourth season Jimmy......

It's come a long way since my day work days. $35/ day was good wages if using the ranch horses. $45/day if using mine.
