Yes I'm positive they definitely were not Whale Sharks..

Yes I've seen Pilot Whales just like many people but these were much much larger.

Yes I'm positive they weren't Orcas.

Yes I have Zapruder type videos although they are crappy shots they show undeniable proof.

Yes I've fished the GOM for twenty years.

Is there anywhere I can see about any other documented sightings? Maybe it's more common that I originally thought about seeing whales in the Gulf of Mexico.

We were 60 ESE of Packery Channel. (Straight east of North Baffin/Compuerta)

Essentially we were on the shelf.

No I don't know what kind of whales. We were in a 47' boat. They were shorter than the boat but longer than 30'.

One episode on Planet Earth tracked a pregnant blue whale travel to the Caribbean to birth her calf. Less predators large enough to get a whale calf in the Caribbean.
I doubt you saw a Blue whale, but maybe other species follow suit. I would love to see video if you have it. Not from a skeptical point of view bit from a fascination point of view.

Sperm whales are commonly seen in the GOM along the shelf break. There's also the Rice's whale, which are on the verge of extinction, but they are on the eastern side of the Gulf off Florida. Post your video. I'd wager you saw sperm whales.

I have seen sperm whales on two different occasions out of SPI, pygmy sperm whales once (at least that is what we could discern), and killer whales twice. Also a few large UFO's that were likely whales.

A good friend saw one a few years ago in the diversionary channel in west bay. They were water skiing when it came up next to the boat.

Once in a lifetime thing.

One pic looks like the hump near the blow hole of a Rice whale. I think theyre known to hang along the edge of the shelf. Same areas as whale sharks. Big area off the Florida panhandle where there was talk of a low speed zone for them.

NOAA denies activists' call for Rice's whale speed limits | WorkBoat

What did yall catch? Took my dad out for state snapper but had to settle for tons of sheephead on the nearshore rigs.

Yeah, they are out there. Not like you'd find in the Pacific, but occasionally you'll hear about them. Pretty amazing.

Broke jetties at sunrise Initially headed on a Hoover overnighter.
Snotty out of the chute. NOAA 2-3s were washing machine whitecap 3-4s
Inside port started having oil pressure sensor issues and decided to stay on the shelf.
Deep dropped on some decent tiles.
Slow roller 2-3s finally showed up
Contemplated going deep on 3 until Outside starboard fuel pressure alarms.
Released an 8' hammer
Lost some big AJ at a cutoff dropping giant hard tails.
Solid rainbow on a flatline with a ribbon.
Too many cuda
Spotted whales on the way back
State water goldfish were nothing of size or numbers. Expected more, caught less
Broke the jetties at twilight safe & sound again.

Another beautiful day on the water

Convicts are thick at the nearshore rigs, always a hoot!

Thanks for the link to the article!

I decided to initially post this on the outdoors board as opposed to Zuck's propaganda machine.

Pilot Whales are fairly common during different times of the year, I also know that Melon Head Whales are seen in the gulf, but I have never seen one, or at least that I know about.

It seems like the late spring and early summer there is more activity, at least off the southern TX coast.

In 1991 we came upon a pod of Killer Whales about 55 miles east of SPI, all we had on board were 2 polaroid cameras, it was a charter boat and the customer had left their cameras in their car. When we got back to the dock nobody believed us and the polaroids were crap.

The next day on another charter we went back to the same area and SOB there were the whales again, this time we got all kinds of pictures. It was kinda a big deal at the time.

There's a whole different world 5 miles south of the MS river and 75 miles south of Galveston. Unfortunately, most of the masses don't even know it exists.

One of the most impressive creatures Ive seen in the wild was a leatherback turtle that had to have been 1500+ lbs. Looked like a real life dinosaur.

The only leatherbacks I've seen were washed up on the Padre Island National Seashore. What a massive sea turtle!

I've never seen one on the hoof offshore…would love to see it one day.
