Wasp Killer Spray: Best That Comes in a Spray Can (Chemical)

As we know, some things are not as good as they used to be. Wasp spray being one of them. Good ol' 80s show-'em-the-can-and-they're-dead before they hit the ground stuff does not exist anymore, sadly.

Last several cans I bought were Spectracide, which by today's standard was pretty fair, but the stuff seems to have lost some effectiveness after being in the shed a couple years since purchased.

So, OB, what have you found (not soapy water mix, chemical spray) that works the best? Maybe squirm some on the ground before dying, but no fly aways (or at you) before losing altitude and landing somewhere else before kickin' the bucket. Also, if really good but not mainstream, where did you get it?

TIA OB!

Na, I still like soapy water so that I can hear them gasping for air after I splash them,

My father in law was a rice farmer and was always finding nest around his barns and equipment. He also used WD40 with a straw.

BASF PT Wasp-Freeze II for midair and soapy water for stationary

The white can spectracide pro is a strong second to wasp freeze.

Parts cleaner/degreaser with a straw knocks them down immediately!

I've liked the foaming wasp spray. Ace Hardware carries it in my neck of the woods.

I think the Spectracide pro in the white can has lost some of its luster. I remember a day you could blast a massive nest with hundreds of wasps on it - and they would all fall immediately. It seems like the formula has changed somehow - because now when I spray them they just fly off. They die quickly still - but it's not an immediate knock them out of the sky thing that it used to be.

I'm trying the Ortho foaming wasp killer now and I prefer it. The foam traps them and keeps them from flying and attacking your face while they are slowly killed. The white can ... well they can attack in the minute or so it takes them to die.

My wasps are mostly up in my 2nd story eaves so only a brand new can of spray can reach them. Have to spray straight up so a lot of it ends up falling back down on me. Switched to the soapy water in a high power water gun for that reason.

I've killed a metric crap ton of them with the run of the mill Spectracide foam spray you get at TSC or Home Depot, haven't noticed a situation that it doesn't work. Wasps are dead within a couple of minutes every time.

My grandfather froze a nest we found while working on a propane tractor with the propane. Dead in mid buzz. At least we thought they were. They were still stuck to the nest when we removed it and tossed it aside. We drove the tractor off came back a while later The nested thawed and the wasps were gone.

Dawn dish soap mixed with water out of spray bottle. Works as needed on all flying/walking/crawling insects.

While poisons work, don't like using around the house as we have dogs who would, knowing our luck, either eat poisoned insects, lick residual spray, or get into the poison can/canister. They always find a way to cause an unplanned and generally quite costly vet visit.

Actually, my fave dish soap/ water weapon is a plastic cup from Kyle concession stand. I've successfully hit them from about 10-12' .

Yep. Same, but mine is a large, old Rudy's BBQ cup.

I've found warm water works a bit faster, but warm, cold, or hot, water and dish soap is the way.

Dawn dish soap to avoid using a lot of chemicals.

However, if you want something that gets a little more midevil on their thorax there is Wasp Freeze.
It's not cheap but nothing else comes close to it. Hit the nest early in the morning or late in the evening when the gang is all here. There will be no survivors.

Everything else is the diet coke of wasp spray after this stuff.

Yep. Get you one of those Green Turf type hose attachment deals with a bottle for mixing chemicals into your hose nozzle and just put dawn dish soap in it.

It'll kill em. Takes a min or so but they die.
