Some awesome person on here posted a hack to get a campsite at Garner almost 2 weeks before the window opened (thanks a ton) and I took advantage and I assume others did as well. How many Texaggers are going to be at Garner for the eclipse? I landed a screened shelter site and I am as stoked as I ever have been for some family time adventures.

Going to be on my back deck at house in the Ozarks. We are dead center of the line. Got our glasses. Hope it's not cloudy!

My house is about 10 miles from the center in a neighborhood on Lake LBJ. I''m probably staying put, but have opportunities to get in the center if I want.

I'm expecting it to be like the 4th of July in the neighborhood, might be bad outside.

You had better get there days ahead. It's going to be a complete circus all over the hills country.

Checking in Friday. Probably should have stayed through Tuesday. Leaving is going to SUCK. The road trip home is literally what kids tablets are made for.

I really don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal about this eclipse. I know this is a 'Total" eclipse, but we saw pretty much the exact same thing only 5 months ago.

My kids will be in school, and I will be at the office. Although, I wish I could justify a vacation for it!

Have you seen a total eclipse? It isn't the same. It isn't pretty much the exact same.

You can book a 2 week block that extends past the current open window including dates that are not open yet and them cancel the days you don't need later, effectively opening the booking window 2 weeks early.

In the path on LBJ as well and will be either guarding the entrance to our neighborhood or guarding the gate to our rural church property from campers.
I don't look forward to the predicted chaos expected in the hill country. Why can't city folks just stay where they belong?

This board is full of city folks who leave on weekends to reach outdoors locations that are rural.

Yes I did. In 2017. It looked pretty much the same as last October to me.

The only difference between this April and last October is a very thin ring visible of the sun. The sun is bright as hell, there will still be visible sunlight around the edge. It's not going to turn to complete darkness all of a sudden. Annular vs Total indeed is "pretty much the same"

Those folks pouring out of Asstin sure are not folks from the board . We will be dealing with urban hippies with zero respect for private property or our rural way of life.
I think that you know the difference.

No, being in totality is a complete different experience. That is why the crowds will be wild and roads jammed packed with visitors.

the difference is striking. The annular you could barely tell happened without knowing it ahead of time. The total eclipse was strikingly different. In the totality it did block out the sun. I don't need a graphic to explain it. I'm surprised anyone that was within the totality of the total eclipse can't admit it was amazing. You were in the totality, right ? Not just in Texas?

That's what I was going to say before. Completely different experience (totality vs annular). Total eclipse is a different animal. The picture is deceiving. Total you can see the corona (suns atmosphere) vs a small portion of the sun (annular). Different light intensity and wavelength. I was in total eclipse and my family was just outside of it (99% totality). Also a completely different experience. It is the most eery and unusual experience. Unexplainable. I also question if they were in the path of totality.

Its not like this happens every year in Texas. Its a once in a lifetime experience for most.

Yep and zero chance my kids (or my wife and i) will be missing it. I'm hoping this trip is one of those lifelong core memories for my kids.

Given the sheer volume of people that they are expecting in Kerrville, F'Burg, Llano etc, I will stay put. It's bad enough during deer season, I can only imagine what this will be like.

Was living in Nashville for a total eclipse back in 2017 or 2018, can't remember which year. Anyways, there is nothing comparable to it. Nothing is "close enough" to that. Was an amazing experience I'll never forget.

I have family in Llano and Kerrville. My guess is Kerrville will be an absolute ****-show.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.
