Well…..I appreciate all the recommendations. Unfortunately my son started throwing up when we got him to sleep last night and got the fever to go with it. So as per usual when the wife and I try and get away, we'll have to shelve it till another weekend.

Is Hilltop Cafe not a thing anymore?

Strangest most out of the way Greek influenced food ever. Great place and great food.

Jack's Chop House has a good happy hour menu.

Cabernet Grill for dinner.

Ate lunch at Tubby's Ice House about a month ago. All of us enjoyed what we had. Full bar with some good beer on tap as well.

If you are staying at the Inn on Baron's Creek, they provide a wonderful free breakfast (make your own Texas-shaped waffles). I was not impressed with Otto's for dinner although your mileage may vary.

Martinis was absolutely amazing…. I'm definitely uncultured when it comes to food and my god I think that was one of the best meals I've ever had. The cocktails hit the spot just right and the chocolate cheesecake was a hell of an end.

Sitting in a jacuzzi tub as I type this….doesn't get any better.

Where'd you go? Move to the big city, did ya?

Also came here to second the recommendation for Martinis, but see that the OP has already sampled the fare...

Better hours for more time with the kids

The hill country is beautiful, and will always be home, but it's a more beautiful life for our family up here.

Where would you all go if you're coming with two 4 year olds? We're going this week, and looks like the weather isn't the greatest while we're there, so I'm trying to find more kid friendly places to take them, while also enjoying it myself.

I've had two four year olds before. God bless you. It gets easier.

Unfortunately Fred is not all that kid friendly. Auslander has a covered outside Biergarten where you could probably let them run around like savages. Otherwise get to go drinks and walk them over to the candy store and toy store and drink. You can drink in public there.

It's been a while since ours were that little. We took them once about that age it was rough.

We let ours burn off some energy and act like savages at Hondos. There's also the pacific war museum.

If the weather will bear it walk them about a mile or two up and down Main Street when you first get there and wear them out. That was our best strategy.

Others may have better ideas.

Leroy's TexMex BBQ, just east of Fred.

Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn for German food. A little expensive, but good. Love the grilled pork chop.

Old German Bakery for breakfast.
