If it's this lease, two of my good friends are some of the people who just got off the lease to make it open. Didn't have good experience with the game wardens out there and there are a lot of very strict rules on that lease.

What happened? They get caught?

No... one of them shot a funky looking spike that had a mass on its head and then took it to the nearest CWD testing site to have a biologist look at it. They tested it negative for cwd, but when he asked the biologist if he'd eat it he said he wouldn't so he said say no more and he went to dispose of the deer.

I guess the game warden who was with the biologist at the testing site told one of the other game wardens about it and he sought him out in camp and said he'd have to give him a ticket for improper disposal and for forgetting to fill out the log on his license.

My buddy was pissed about the disposal ticket cuz he had taken it to the testing site and they told him not to eat it and didn't tell him he couldn't go dump it. They had the means to get rid of the deer at the processing site if he's not supposed to dump it on the land where it was shot.

Then he had trouble getting a hold of the game warden a few times to see if the ticket was ever filed cuz it appears it wasn't ever filed with tpwd when he tried to pay it.

He eventually go hold of the warden who said he wanted to meet with him next time he came out there and then ghosted him the entire weekend while he was there trying to meet up with him and called him the next Monday saying he wanted to get this handled and my buddy was telling him he tried to handle it but the guy didn't return his calls all weekend while he was in camp.

Just PITA stuff and now my buddy keeps worrying he's gonna have a warrant out in a county he's not likely to go to ever again since he and his friends decided not to renew due to this incident and how strict the rules in general are out there with the land owner.

Yeah that's complete bs. The name of that game warden needs to be posted if he was fully aware the biologist recommended not eating the deer. On the liscense game log on the back of the hunters liscense, that is the one item a Hunter in our camp got a ticket on last year.

Our local game warden always returns calls or texts, but will also let you know that he is off duty if not available. Numerous wardens come out the opening week of dove season, then we very rarely see them the rest of the year and then usually driving thru town.

The story sounds like BS. CWD test results takes almost 2 weeks to get back. I had 2 this season that took 12 days and 10 days respectively.

In no world did the hunter get a check station visit, a negative test, and a ticket for dumping the animal on the same weekend, which is how I read the story.

As far as the log goes, that's been around for like 15 years. Who still doesn't know the procedure?

Nowhere did he say they got a negative same day test. Just that it tested negative.

And the mass on head/ do not recommend eating needed no test. It was an opinion from a professional biologist. Which should have been respected by the game wardens imo.

The log was a brain fart thing. He knew he just forgot. He's also from GA originally, so I'm not sure if they have logs on their licenses there.

The test result didn't come back that day. He found out later it was negative. but the game warden did come out same day after he talked to the guys at the CWD station to harass him.

Yeah it sounded like the guy was kinda being a jerk. I think he said Tommy Johnson was his name.

One thing I have learned in life is there is always two sides to a story.

Badace52. Thought I would share something. In some counties the GW's still file their cases within the JP court within a said precinct. He might be able to contact the county clerk and see if it has been filed.
That may have changed recently but that was how it was when my dad was Sheriff.
Maybe help him put his mind at ease?

ETA. On the ticket he should be able to pay the fine or get a court date. I don't believe he will have a warrant out for him unless he states he will pay the fine and does not OR has a court date and has failure to appear.
Bet some legal guys on hear can give some advice to help?

He did that and they said the GW hadn't filed it as of the last time he checked. The clerk office said that GW is notorious for not filing his tickets.

Well heck. We will pray that it will all work out for him. I would bet it will.
