Those Boyd stocks are pretty cool… went to their web site for the first time.. that's nice how that works

I really like them. They really dress up your rifle and change the way it feels when you shoulder it.

I found my receipt from when I ordered these and It looks like prices have gone up 51% in the last 9 years.

Just to try and keep this thread going. The wood on my 11-48 still looks pretty good for an old warhorse.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

This thread is kind of reassuring. I was starting to think that I'm the only dinosaur left that likes rifles like these.

I'm all in favor of anyone owning all the black guns they want, but to me they have no soul.

Here's a S&W model 29 with some maplewood grips that I kind of like.

I wish I could remember his name but he retired a few years ago.

Not going to dig into my safe right now but my kids' deer rifle is still out from deer season.

I had three requirements when I started shopping for a youth rifle five years ago. It had to be American made, it had to have a wood stick, and I wanted it in .243. The only company that could satisfy all of those was Mossberg with the Bantom Patriot. It has been an excellent deer rifle and this year was the only rifle we even took out there.

People can think that's dumb or fuddy or old fashioned or whatever. I have also insisted on my kids learning how to shoot with open sights and learn how to handle all types of actions. I was vindicated late last year when I was at the gun range with my 12 yo son and next to us a FT Hood soldier is being taught by a friend how to use the sights on a Henry lever. Meanwhile my son is sitting next to them with his open sighted Marlin popping steel at 100 yards with Lawman .38 specials like he is shooting layups.

I took a couple synthetic stocks off and had wood stocks put on. I bought mine from Macon Gun Stocks. You choose the piece of wood from their website and then they do the work to make it fit properly. The sky is the limit but they were very good people to work with

Interesting that your selection criteria for your kid's rifle exactly describes my first deer rifle my dad gave me for Christmas when I was 12.

Mine was a Ruger M77 (original tang safety version) in .243. I killed my first deer with that rifle, as well as a lot of deer and other critters since. I still occasionally hunt with it to this day. This rifle holds tremendous sentimental value for me because it represents the trust my dad placed in me to be safe and responsible and finally handle a firearm on my own without his supervision. It represents a symbolic transition from a boy to a young man.

Originally, the rifle had an old steel tube El Paso Weaver scope that seemed half the length of the rifle. If you look closely, you might see a notch I filed in the rear iron sight to provide clearance for that long-azz Weaver's objective bell.

When this rifle was made, there were no synthetic stocks on hunting rifles and virtually all hunting rifles were blued steel. An all stainless hunting rifle was virtually unheard of.

In my mid 20s, I decided to dress up the old girl by replacing the beat up original stock with one made from a nice piece of AA grade American walnut. I also replaced the factory Ruger trigger with a Timney unit. Here she is today:

That's an awesome rifle. With that stock and action it will easily be shooting 100 years from now. No question. Great family heirloom that you have made even better for future generations. Great rifle.

My family heirlooms are pretty awesome but they are all rimfire or handguns. For a different thread.

Thank you. Your guns you posted are so beautiful I cannot adequately describe them.

I lucked out with this, bought it on consignment from an online retailer just as the scamdemic was starting. So happy with it.
