Thinking of taking my 18 mo grandson to the Monster Jam at NRG Stadium in Houston. For anyone who has been before, where is the best view with the little guys? I am willing to spring for lower level front row type seats but wondering if the actual view would be better higher up, maybe even second deck?

I think the best viewing experience is about 20 rows up in the lower deck. If you get too low, can't see nearly as well. You probably already know this, but if you sit down low, absolutely being muffs for the kid (you'll probably want them too). Have fun.

The VIP experience on the dirt where you get to see the drivers and trucks up close is cool, but for an 18 month old, it would make for a really long day and he won't remember any of it.

Bring hearing protection regardless of where you sit.
And 18 months old? Better you than me…..

Muffs no matter where you sit. It will be loud. Also be ready for a lot of talking from the announcers/drivers with a whole lot less driving.

I took my son a few years ago. He had a blast. Middle of the first level as the first response recommends is spot on. Have fun!

You need double hearing protection. It's unbelievable loud. Make sure you have some that fit the little guy.

I'd wait a few years. It's awesome and he will love it when he's older.

18 months is too young for that. I appreciate you wanting to do something cool like that with him, but wait until he is 5-6. Take the kid to the zoo or an aquarium. If this kid is like the third or fourth kid and all the siblings are going too, that is a different story.

Agree, i wouldn't take an 18mo old unless you can get an invite to watch it from someone's suite (i took at least one of my boys to monster jam in a buddy's suite when they were right around that age and it still kinda sucked, because hanging out with an 18 month old is really just babysitting)

Thanks for all the info! He already has ear muffs etc. but I may rethink and wait a year. Problem is I kinda wanted to go......

Then you should take him. I'm going with the family and my grandson is 2. If it doesn't work out, you can always leave. But, if your grandson is mesmerized, you'll have wonderful memories.

I know it's been said many times, but no joke on the hearing protection. If you've never been, you won't believe how loud it is.

Yeah if you really want to go yourself then by all means take him. Hopefully he has fun, but I would seriously be prepared to leave after 15 minutes. He might be terrified.

Young kids are generally frightened by loud noises. Fire and police sirens are not encouraged around them visiting elementary schools. I would wait several years.

Then why don't you go and not take him?

We took our kids (10 and almost 4) and had a great time.

The couple that was with us had their 5 and 2.5 year olds.

They had a hard time with the 2.5 keeping his hearing protection on. If you still want to take home, make sure he's practiced with ear muffs and or ear plugs.

And go to target ahead of time and buy a toy monster truck then give it to him there.

You should go, and take a buddy or something. It's a great time. We've been several years in a row. My son was 2 when I took him the first time. It was a little too young. He's 5 now and it's almost perfect.

They come back in November, maybe waiting another almost year would be better.

Edit to add: if you can catch a late afternoon show on a Sunday vs the 7pm show Friday/saturday, it's makes a world of difference with a kid. And sit in club level because you can get out of the noise.

First few rows of the mezzanine is great.

But pass up this one, 18 months old is going to be silly to take.

My 4 year old even had a hard time sitting through it because after 3 hours it's a lot of waiting for the next thing. They still loved it but no way in hell I would take 18 month old.

Resurrecting this one - going to make a run at it in October. Where do you find GOOD ear muffs for the little guys? I have a set we have been working with so he is used to it but not sure it is good quality protection....
What brand to look for?

Thanks

Just buy them a pair that they think look cool off Amazon. Let them pick the out. If they like them they're more apt to wear them.

I don't think it's something important enough to stick to the most expensive or the highest quality or anything like that.

My kids (7 and 4) went with me and they wore the Amazon finds and had a blast.

Fit is more important. They all do about the same unless you are willing to spend on electronic ear muffs.

Here's the deal. Not only is it ridiculously loud (you feel it through your body all the way at the top of the stadium) it also lots of bad smelling exhaust and it scares kids unless they're older.

If you insist on doing this for a kid under 4, my suggestion is getting a pit pass and walking around the trucks and see the drivers before. Buy cheap seats all the way at the top and be prepared to leave once the kid is no longer having a blast an giggling so it doesn't ruin it for them later.

My kids enjoy it every couple of years, but the novelty wears off and it becomes a lot of the same with constant loud noise, vibrations, and exhaust.
