Out in eastern Oregon where I used to live, they were very common. They are always neat to see. I'm happy they're common enough that they're just considered part of the ecosystem.

That nest has been there for many years. They were likely refurbishing it. A new male came on the scene a few years ago and they built and used a second nest further back in the woods but came back to this one a couple of years ago. That area has an iron fence around it due to the nest being there. They would really like to develop this but can't. I started photographing these eagles back in 2016.

Yep, they are making a comeback.

I see them occasionally in suburban Houston. It's wild.

It did get pretty ragged for sure. Wind definitely takes its toll. This is at Lake Somerville. I have heard there is a new nest on private property not far away. Likely the same birds.

I kayaked the Guadalupe downstream of Seguin to Belmont a few years ago and saw two active nests along the river bottom. I lived in seguin for years and had never seen one before that.

I saw a pair of bald eagles yesterday morning on my lake in Matagorda County. They nest a few miles from me.

Coolest thing was a few years ago they were bringing their young eagles and teaching them how to fish. I had tilipia in the lake and they get sluggish when the water is cold. Tilipia hang out in shallow water the sun has warmed making them easy prey for the eagles.

Also fun to watch Ospreys make dive bombs into the water to catch a fish.
