A few new birds in the hill country but not a lot. Had a limit by 7:30 this morning though.
Yesterday was slicked off but the wind got here this morning and fired them up early.
Froze my fingers off getting the decoys and iced up waders.

Birds have been piling into the panhandle the last 2 days, problem is all the waters frozen up. We hit a deeper hole the Outfitters haven't found yet that was just stacked with birds and cleaned up on the big ducks. Mostly mallards (some absolute studs), couple pintail and some wigeons. Today I threw my first ever goose spread and was quickly humbled. I think everything we could have done wrong, we did wrong. Made some changes and finally got one big spin of a hundred or so birds that we got to land that made it all worth it. Fun fact, decoys don't just slide into a dry land Milo field when it's 2 degrees outside. Definitely a highlight weekend on the year though!

Zero wind and late moving birds

Pintails did it dirty this morning and smoked some really good drakes

Very sporty near Garwood. 22 degrees and constant sleet. Only managed 13. Pond froze over and birds would not approach. Finally broke the ice up and got some groups to come in.

Hunted the Navasota yesterday morning. Hole looked perfect. Lots of ice but had a good looking landing spot. Saw lots of migrating seagulls and other birds but that was about it. Total ducks seen was 3 teal and 2 woody's. Slowest hunt of the season.

Finally made it to the duck lease yesterday afternoon for the first time this season. I've wasted too much time deer hunting.

Windy, cold and overcast. Thought it'd be about perfect.

About 15-20 gaddies lifted upon my arrival. Once I got settled in it was slow. Only pulled the trigger on two, killing one.

Don't get set up till 9:30. Got a coastal limit though lol. Wish I'd had the action to pick out drakes, had to take what I could get.

I couldn't tell ya if it's got a name or not? It was a little spit of land right off Packery Channel. Bout the only thing I could park my boat and walk to since the tides are so low.

Scratched out a few more this morning.

We didn't see the number of birds we thought we would. Only had one group come in, but i shot one of the prettiest woodies, I ever have.

Also had first. I have never had to get a duck from under the ice.

Man that's great but hate I missed it. We had a group that was supposed to come up this weekend. The guide said earlier in the week that they hadn't been seeing much at all and didn't recommend we come.

Green-winged teal this AM in south Colorado Co. Not a duck hunter so not sure they are in season. Hunters were in the blinds I saw driving down the road.

Very good pic! They're defitnely in season and in abundance right now. We shot about 18 this morning and finished our limit with Pintail and Spoonies.

Saturday 1/20 north TX. Cold, 16 with wind chill of 4 degrees. Duck pond 95% frozen. Zero clouds, zero wind. I saw 1 duck all morning and it was way out of range.

Sunday 1/21 not as old as yesterday, 27 with wind chill of 14. Low clouds. Slight wind from north. Ducks started showing up in 3-4 right at shooting light. 2-man limit by 840am.
Mallards, teal, canvasback, Spoonies. Was a great morning. Ice made the bird recovery hard. Too thin to walk on, too thick for our little boat to break through. No dog. Birds frozen into the ice making it very hard to snag them with a fishing pole to drag them in. Broke the line several times.
