I wish I could have seen pictures of my grandfather fighting the Japanese in the jungles of the Philippines during WWII. He was a brigadier general in the Philippine resistance, and when they moved to the states, he trained the US Army in guerilla tactics.

My paternal GM, her parents and her GM and GF and the rest of their family in 1901, GM Berta was 11 at the time. Her father is sitting to the left of her GM and her mother is standing right behind him. GM is to her left. The second picture is her graduation picture in 1911 from Texas State Normal School in San Marcos .....now Texas State University. She is sitting to the left of the little girl. Lot's of Edge's in Brazos CO back then. I'm kin to about 1/4 of the folks buried in the Reliance Cemetery.

Great thread!

Here are a few photos from my wife's side of the family. We went through some old photo albums with her grandmother recently.

Do you know where that picture was taken? Was it near the kingsville NAS? I used to frequent a ranch that had a navy jet which crashed in the 70s. The navy collected all the sensitive equipment and left the rest to rust. If was a fascinating area to explore.

I wonder if the date is wrong.

A list of incidents involving military aircraft (1975 - 1979) does not mention an incident involving a navy jet trainer (of course, maybe this was considered to be too minor to make the list).

I wonder if it's one of the accidents that is "stricken" from this list. It does look like a bay in the background of the picture which fits with the crash site I have explored a few hundred yards from Baffin Bay.

Careful what you wish for. My grandfather was born in 1900 in rural Georgia. No heat or A/C.

WW1
WW2
Korea
Vietnam
Great depression
Pandemic

All of my family is from rural NW GA. I don't recall when REA got them hooked up, but The Year The Lights Came On by Terry Kay is about that. He was my dad's cousin, and Freeman is based on my dad. I remember him talking about storing their milk and other cold stuff in the creek.

Here's my grandfather "camping out" during WW2.

I'm sure it's possible to be cooler than this, but it's harder because he wasn't trying.
