Ended up getting a Vortex Viper HSLR 4-16x50 and a Weatherby Vanguard.

What rings do y'all like? I've been doing some research and it sounds like Talley's are highly recommended.

I was going to suggest a VX3HD. I snagged a couple of some other forums on the used classifieds. Those guys seem to change scopes like underwear and picked up VX3HD for under 350. For me it suits, but glad you got the scope sorted!!

Scope rings/bases...LOL. Better strap in. I am going through this now and there is no shortage of opinions. I have bought everything I can find on Amazon and decided to just figure it out myself. For me, I settled on Talley LW ring/base combos OR Warne Weaver style base with Warne Maxima Rings...or Burris Signature rings on the Warne base. I feel like these are the 'best'.

You need to get farther down the rabbit hole if you think talley lw, warne, burris are 'the best' but you are on the right track for combinations that are rock solid at a reasonable budget

Man, I gave up on the whole search. Jus t pick something and toss it in.

I mean they are better than the dual dovetail and std rings/bases.

The worst part of the internet is that no matter what rings you pick, they are all the best, and all have no shortage of personal anecdotes from folks who are no more versed in the subject at hand than the OP, and in most cases less so, and yet we use that for validation of choices.

For all intents and purposes, i fully believe the only difference between Leupold, Talley, Warne, Conetrol, Seekins, etc is the amount of marketing you buy into. As such, I try to make an informed decision on a reasonably priced set and go with it.

At the end of the day, my 1964 Model 70 with a standard base and windage adjustment with a K4 scope will put a bullet into a silver dollar at 100 yards. It already shoots better than I do. It's purely academic at this point.
