No real updates. He had planned a ~12 mile hike and the crews have already hiked it and not found him so at this point he's off trail or took a wrong turn off his planned route. Helicopter was brought in with the initial ground crews but somewhat late in the day. They'll be back today along with a border patrol tracker, more ground crews, drones. I drove all day yesterday but will join the search in the morning and will likely quit updating once I'm in the park.

No major updates, by the end of today they will have covered all possible trails. The border patrol tracker believes they've picked up his footprints on trail from his last known point and are following. They can't be positive because we don't know his exact boot but it's headed the right direction and he's on the most remote and least travelled area of the park so they feel good about it. He did have pants and multiple layers and jacket so we think he should be ok as far as temperature but water is going to become an issue soon.

He hikes all the time, particularly this park and big bend are his favorites. He probably hikes both 5-6 times a year. Just last year at 70 he hiked his first 14er with my brother and I.

That part of the park is so beautiful this time of year. It's also so sparsely traveled, I think I saw one ranger and one other civilian hiker the entire day I hiked that trail...hopefully more feet and eyes is all that is needed. Water sources are scarce, but there's lots of shade. As an experienced hiker, hopefully he's stationary and able to minimize dehydration.
