Got into Las Vegas about 2:00 Thursday. After a stop at the dispensary and grocery store, we headed to the ranch.

The ranch is about 30 minutes out of Las Vegas, NM.

Our accommodations for the trip. Rustic, but cozy

Thursday evening we went for a quick hike into a canyon near the house. It was quickly apparent I was not in Texas anymore. The air was cleaner, the sky bluer and, with 50,000 acres surrounding you, the silence incredible.

After a quick bit of exploring we went back to the house and ate dinner. I was in bed by 10.

Friday morning we woke up and had breakfast, packed a lunch and headed out. We drove out to this teepee that they had built on a hill at some point.

Then we went to this old wall up against a rock face. Under the overhangs of the rock you could see old soot marks from those before. I thought that was really cool.

Next we headed another 5 miles or so into the ranch to this rim where we could see a long way. About halfway there we came across a group of elk working their way through a little draw. One good bull, a decent 7x6.

We made it to the rim and it was pretty spectacular. I felt like I could see my house.

After we left that rim we headed back to the house for pulled pork sandwiches and a couple games of uno before we headed outside and lit a fire.

The stars out there are like nothing I've ever experienced in my life. I probably saw more shooting stars than I've seen in the rest of my life combined.

Saturday morning we slept in and made cinnamon rolls before heading into town to meet the ranch manager and 2 of his friends for lunch at The Hillcrest. I had the Enchiladas with green sauce. They were good.
Lot of interesting folks in that restaurant.

After lunch we headed to a house on a different part of the ranch that has dish to watch the Ags. You can see a long way from the house, and there was a storm rolling across the prairie.

Hung around there and watched football most of the day, then headed back to the house for steaks and asparagus, a quick shower, and bed.

Sunday morning we woke up early for a hike down into box canyon. By far the longest hike we did, though not unpleasantly strenuous.

We were all pretty wiped after the hike, so we went back to the house and just hung around and played games the rest of the afternoon.

Woke up this morning and am heading back to Texas. Absolutely awesome weekend with friends; can't wait to go back

Keep an eye out for arrowheads. Especially near that charred overhang. Lots of history in that area.

Edit: Nvm just saw the last sentence. Looks like a fun trip

We tried that once, but the folks in Santa Fe didn't agree.

It's something I would think would not be a good idea to talk about when you might be filling out paperwork in the future for a firearm purchase and have to answer the question about being an unlawful use of certain substances containing THC. I'm likely being paranoid, but it just doesn't seem like something to mention cavalierly on a public forum that often involves discussion about firearms. Maybe I'm wrong & it wouldn't be the first time.

For the record I'm not ATF & I don't frequent F16.

Yeah, but tandy is ATF, so he can just tell his buddies to let it slide...
