Flying out early tomorrow morning and have no idea what to expect. We're going with another couple and the women picked Banff. Anything to do there besides look at stuff and be bored?

Went there on our honeymoon back in 2011. The most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. The town of Banff was pretty neat itself. We went on a trout fishing trip on the Bow River one day which was awesome. Do yourself a favor and book one night in Jasper. Make the drive from Banff to Jasper, then drive back the next day. Map says about 4 hours, but it took us all day since we stopped so many times. Scenery got more beautiful around every curve.

Look it up. It is awesome. You will be sorry you're only there for 4 days. Besides the immediately local glowing blue/green lakes, go check out Emerald Lake as well.

Do one of these as well:

rather be fishing

If you enjoy fishing and the outdoors, it's heaven.

I'd recommend taking one day and driving up to the Columbia Icefields. There's a visitor center and you can take a tour out onto the glacier.

I haven't specifically been to Banff (it's on our shortlist for a road trip since we're in NW Montana) but I have been from Jasper down to the icefields. That is an utterly breathtaking area. There's numerous pull offs and short hikes/points of interest.

you agreed to a vacation, booked flights/accommodations, and didn't bother looking anything up until the day before? And looking it up involved posting on a message board instead of at least googling?

sorry, but zero chance this isn't a troll.

If you like mountain biking, rent a bike in town and go here:

https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7039265/tunnel-mountain-loop

Ride until the trail gets too difficult, then turn around and ride back.

My wife and in-laws went up there while I was stuck in Edmonton on a work trip. They had a great time hiking and looking at beautiful scenery. Go have breakfast at the Bare Bistro on the North end of town. Great Indian couple. He was the sous at the Fairmont Banff for years then opened his own place.

My wife and the other couple did ALL of this. Booking, planning, etc. I am just along for the ride.

I was always told "only boring people get bored". How anyone can get bored in the great outdoors is beyond me

It's arguable one of the most scenic places on Earth, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

No I'm gonna sympathize with the OP here. I did the same thing when my wife's family booked a trip to Seaside that cost 4x what a beach trip should cost and still sucked because all the budget was spent on a house in Seaside rather than on doing fun stuff, great restaurants/experiences etc. They have a history of that. They did the same thing in Hawaii booking the Alani resort. My wife and I dodged that one thankfully, but it's enough to sour you on a trip even if it's to an otherwise great place. A beautiful place can do a lot for people but if you're the type to want to get up and go, sometimes that's not enough.

Got to be a troll...no way your wife never mentioned "hey were looking at x,y,z" or "I just found_______ for our trip" if not maybe you don't need to goband do, just connect with her in a place with awesome scenery.

We're travelers, and we're always talking suggesting or thinking outloud even if the other one is mainly planning said trip

You'll wish you were there longer

Pic for ref, sorry you'll be bored here

Geez, certainly didn't mean to offend anyone.

I'm not trolling, I have never heard of this place and just thought I'd try to get some tips. I NEVER pay attention to our vacations and have always let my wife handle it and just kinda go along for the ride. It's always "spur of the moment" when we do something. This time, she says "we're going to Banff National Park in Canada" and I thought "meh". Does look really nice from the pics yall posted and I certainly appreciate the advice. I'll take some pics and post when I get back.

Beautiful place- Hike around Lake Louise. Go to the driving range near the Banff Springs Fairmont and hit balls at the elk- they don't seem to mind.

Plus 1 for the Columbia Ice Fields. It will be cold on the glacier; we went in early July and I made the error of wearing shorts up there.

I agree Ojos. Just being there is never enough. I like to book trips. Rafting, boating, fishing, anything to get some action. I don't like just being a tourist. Nice to get others out of their comfort zone of just being a tourist.
ETA we were in Park City recently and they had a summer bobsled that was cool. Did all of the lift/gondola rides that were open also.
Hungry Ojos

Exactly my sentiment. I'm sure it's gorgeous, but I like to do stuff too.

ETA: but it does sound like there is stuff to do after reading these posts.

I did Banff in February. Talk about cold. I think it was -10 degrees when I was there. I had a work trip to Calgary and they told me it would be 7 days worth of work so I booked flights and hotels and went up there a few days later. Well I finished up in only 4 days so I spent 2 days in Banff burning time. Everything was frozen so it was definitely a different experience than you're get right now. I was able to walk from one end of Lake Louise to the other on the ice and hike up into the mountains a ways. There were frozen waterfalls, some amazing ice sculptures up close to the lodge etc. Checked out the Fairmont in Banff and hiked along the river/stream that flows by the Fairmont. Oh yeah you've got to eat the beavertails in Banff too.

Yeah there's plenty of cool shlt to do but not sure what availability for all that is a day before he leaves.

If he ends up bored it's his own fault.

Go to Lake Louise. Probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.

Walk around Banff, it's a cool town.

Go to the hot springs.

Also, see what the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise has going on.

Sounds like the OB may not be the place for the OP. Banff, meh. I'll stay home with my PS5.

If Chateau Lake Louise is still a nice place, it's worth going for a visit.
