This may sound like a stupid question - but these pics I have below - this is a grasshopper, right?

For an hour, I kept feeling something poking me in different places under my shirt... On my chest, and later on my back. I finally located this under my shirt, on my back shoulder.

They don't bite, right? (I am a city guy, and am not from Texas)

I guess I was living under a rock when he was alive. I do have 3 kids ages 9 and under. So maybe by the time I began lurking on the OB I was not as able to keep up with everything. But wish I could have known the old fella. Sounds like a legend! I recently read up on his old threads and even found his obit.

So many perch and bass in Brushy Creek fell victims to those long legged suckers when I was younger. I cannot count the amount of times I used even small pieces of one after 3 or 4 fish had hammered it into nothing left but the head etc.

I like the survival shows where they eat them. I'm laughing, thinking, surely you don't know how to fish or have no water within 100 miles?

What about Katydids? I swear to god I have been truly bitten by them before and it was not pleasant.

Some of my favorite memories was a broke college student I'd go to see Granny Bott who still had the family farm. We had a nice east Texas pond (no tanks around Tyler) and it was right next to a 30 acre hay field.

I'd set up a line with no weight and the smallest hook in my granddaddy's tackle box. Then I'd prowl the field catching hoppers. Each time I got one I'd go back to the pond and chunk that bad boy on the water. Got hits is seconds every time.

The key is getting them to float. If you did you got a top water smash of a bass. If they sunk it was perch and bream bait. Either way it was fishing.

I did this in the afternoon until sun down and couldn't find the anymore. Good times

Surprisingly you can be allergic to the chemicals they produce, the tobacco spit being one of the worst.

(I know this cause I worked on them for 2 years in grad school).
