Anyone ever had success with this? Looking at a firearm and it's about 500 more than it's worth and been there for some time. So far it's like dealing with Pawn Stars. "I can do 5% off". I know the guys working there don't know values and more importantly don't care or have the ability to negotiate but figured if anyone knew, the OB would have inside info to the process. No big deal, I can just walk but it's worth asking. I need it to go 30%, not 5%.

I'm surprised they've gone 5% and if they have, that means that's probably their max authorized.

If it's really worth 30% less, go buy it not at a big box store.

Ask the manager. He, or she, will tell you straight if they can't go lower than 5. If they can, they obviously won't tell you how low they can go. Tell the manager your bottom dollar and see what they say.

Yes I have negotiated many times with cabelas but not always successfully. How long have they had it?

And "just buy one at a big box store" doesn't work with a particular used gun.

I think i got $50 off this Ruger 1911, then when they couldn't find the case that was supposed to be with it, they threw in an extra magazine or 2.

This was at Cabelas in early 2020.

Jason..... I have bought quite a few from them over the years. My method of madness is to always talk to the gun room manager if possible.
The stores that I frequent are big users of Blue Book and I try to use that to my advantage by talking condition vs. retail values. I have developed a relationship with two stores gun room managers.
I will make a very reasonable offer always. I don't try to low ball them. Then I leave my card with the offer and tell him if he does sell it by when he needs to to give me a call.
He has called me about half the time... but it may be a month or so before he does.
I react quickly and pay cash when he calls.
If I do not hear from him in three weeks or so, and I really want the gun, I will go by the store, and if he still has it, I will up my ante a little to see if he will bite.
I have been fairly successful doing it this way,
but I have lost some deals too.
Guess that's the fun in it!

Thanks for the info! I'll give it a shout. The store is 3 hours away from me so it's not easy to get there. The gun is sort of u common so that's why the high price but it's also 100 bucks a box to shoot which is why it hasn't sold. I don't think cabelas is short of rack space so they don't have to do anything if they don't want. I was curious if they do consignments because if that's what this is, then that's a different ballgame. If it's theirs and they took it as a trade in then they can do whatever. I'd rather talk to the manager on the phone but it's hard to negotiate over the phone.

It's not a life changer if I can't get it. I don't even shoot half the guns I buy. I collect them and I think I like the search and negotiation for the firearm more than any thing. It's wierd.
