I know I and some others have posted some things before from the Mendota ranch but thought I'd share this. Pretty interesting new approach to herbicide treatment.

Interesting. Velpar scares me. Used it on cedar post five strand one year and pretty sure it killed some posts.

The form seems promising. Delivery still seems off. You can't tell me those high pressure paint ball guns aren't ricocheting pellets all over the place. Id want a gun only capable of shooting them about 10 feet. Just walk along and dispense.

Velpar is very dangerous if you have any large trees you want to keep. I know from experience. I will never use it again. You better double the distance away from the trees as stated on the label. Moves in soil and will destroy everything. Should be outlawed. I was trying to control smut grass.

Hope he has lots of insurance, I can see the lawsuits headed his way.

Thanks for posting that.

I'll say that treating 1,000 trees per hour from a helicopter with his device sure beats the 6-8 trees per hour that I treated using the 'shovel slit and liquid Tordon (picloram)' method on the modest number of cedars I had to deal with.

Cedar was always a tough nut for me to crack. It's really the only thing I found that Remedy (61% triclopyr) and diesel wouldn't lay a glove on.

Cedars (Eastern red cedar) have gotten so bad up in parts of Oklahoma that the state is now funding eradication by fire. At least that method doesn't leave the dead trees needing to be mulched or dozed after they're killed, I suppose.

I have used Surmount on cedars and it works really well. I sprayed cedars while spraying for pear.

I've always said 3 drip lines, but there is no accounting for the intelligence of applicators. Texas has the most embarrassing, piss poor pesticide applicator training in the country. At no point should a licensed private applicator have to ask a salesman, "How much do I put in my tank" or be unable to tell me exactly how many gallons their sprayer applies.

Having gotten my CEU's a few times, I would blame that just as much on the student being a dumb***. The guy with the PHD teaching the classes the last few times seemed very competent to me. He was always willing to take any questions. Sure any process can be improved. But I deal with the public six days a week and I am sticking to my opinion of the average "student".

Well it's not going to work in Texas.

it says it needs an inch of rain to dissolve the bullets.

We'll know in 2030 whether it worked or not!

This is really cool! I hope it works and can be done safely.

Dude seems pretty flippant and careless to me. I couldn't watch it all. If he was careful and wore PPE I would take his pitch seriously.

Seems like a cool idea though

He literally said you need to wear a full PPE before doing this, but he wasn't going to for the video

I couldn't get past his Walker Texas Ranger costume. Looked like he'd split his britches if he actually did any real work.

Why not a sprayer with a 5 or 6 ft rod on it?

You get under every canopy to not kill grass and then you don't need one inch of rain to dissolve the paintball gun balls

I am guessing you didn't watch it all

Speed and cost

Cost is for this new innovative method. I guarantee you that you'll do it quicker, better and cheaper with men on foot or horseback than trying to pretend like paintballs of it will be cheaper and better.

I'll gladly be wrong but let's get real, this is a cool idea not a good or practical idea

He clearly explains the cost with a helicopter
Iirc $27 acre

Why isn't a good idea, there are already spike pellets used for brush control this is a variation of that

And coupled with helicopter or drone this, has better cache of control in areas not accessible by foot, horseback or atv

Curious about the mix rate....

I scanned through the dupont guide and only found 1 gallon per 5 (min) gallons of water. That would kill damn near anything and cost a bundle.

I would need to do more research...

One ball per 3' in height tree

I would plan on spraying if I used it.

I have a relatively small area that I am are going to try this on. Bits and pieces of about 40 acres with a high concentration. Since it wipes out the yucca how do y'all think it will do with cactus?
