Going to Bozeman at the end of August and would like to do some fly fishing. Anyone have any good recommendations for a location and a guide service?

River's Edge is a good fly shop that has guide service. We've used them a number of times.

We went around Big Sky with Gallatin River Guides. Probably caught close to 40 just by myself, top notch outfitter IMO. If you want to try and do self guided I think the Gallatin and Madison River are both good spots

Second vote for rivers edge… don't self guide the Madison, that's a tough go. Spend the money, learn some new water, make a new friend, learn and remember.

You will catch more on the Madison. Don't be afraid to go east and get guided from Livingston and hit the smaller stuff and catch 3 times as much.

Are you making Bozeman your Base Camp? And how many days are you staying to fish? That would help me direct you while you can still see stuff or visit folks.

If you want to head east we had a bunch of fun on a float trip (with guide) on the yellowstone river. I think we launched around Emigrant.

Can't make recommendations on guides, but I second heading south to Big Sky and the Gallatin national forest.

Not sure I agree with you about smaller stuff on the Yellowstone.

Did this in 2021 and it was excellent. We booked through Yellowstone Angler.

That was us. A good trip where we fished around Missoula, Craig and Dillon.

Man I remember that thread. That was awesome. How far away is Missoula from Bozeman? I would love to check it out.

Dillon's closer and the Beaverhead is good fishing with lots of nice browns.

Some Beaverhead fish. And the taco bus.

Creeks off the road along the Yellostone are easy to get to and close to Bozeman, and can produce nice fish with hip waders. From DePuy to Armstrong is a stretch that you won't even need a guide, just a good eye. Going east out of Bozeman there are creeks that I fished almost everyday. I would sit and watch the weasels run around and go in and out of stumps right where I fished.

I think we talked years ago after church. Not sure if it was when we were at First Presbyterian or at the Methodist church down off 6 where we go now.

Maybe First Presbyterian. We made some presentations there about out mission work in Zambia. As I recall we had just returned from visiting some churches and fishing in Montana when we were in Bryan.
