Apparently your recreational activity of running your dogs on my ranch ("accidentally" or not), is not supposed to "bother my family".

Its usually hog hunters. Have had a few on my camera, and one very brazen poacher that showed up as well.

I don't want hound hunting to go away, but the idea that you and your dogs can go anywhere you want is pretty insane these days. Properties just aren't as big as they used to be.

To EXPECT a property owner to give permission for dogs and hunters to run through your property at will is real dumb.

We never caught them in person. Figured it was one of the ranch hands from the ranch next door, but nothing positive.

He had 3 dogs and 2 pigs in his side by side.

I don't think people necessarily want hunting with dogs to go away either. I think it has more to do with the attitude that a lot of these dog owners have and/or the lack of consideration of timing or impact on things like hunting and livestock.

Run dogs, control them best you can, and if they get outside of where they're supposed to run, try and retrieve them as quickly as possible and without being an entitled jack ass that thinks you're solving everyone's problems.

Coondogs wouldn't bother me (I grew up with them), hog dogs and hog hunters on the other hand would not be welcomed.

What they don't mention is this often comes with cut fences. I have caught poachers a couple times while sitting in the blind.

In my experience, the two types of people that claim sovereign immunity to property boundaries are:

1) People on horses
2) Coon hunters*

Engage with #1 at your leisure.

Interacting with #2 is not worth the risk.

*Depending on the area of the country this could be substituted for hawg hunters. Or 'yote hunters (in flatbed trucks with dog boxes).

Y'all mean to tell me them boys running their trashy cur dogs through or over your fences aren't really helping y'all out?!

I love old-school traditional hound hunting, but them hogdoggers are a different breed man. Have a few different friends that are houndsmen, but they run dogs on places that are 30-40 sections minimum and are always called by landowners to come out usually due to a lion kill.

B/B Ranch Hounds has bayed up 1 lion a week this year so far all the way through last week. Most of them are coming off their own ranch in Sheffield.

While I'm not up on the laws in other states I'm really skeptical of the implied claim that it's perfectly legal to trespass at will just because you're running hounds when hunting.

We don't have hog hunters here, but I have dealt with a guy running greyhounds after coyotes. He drove across my plowed field, over a derelict barbed wire fence onto adjoining grassland owned by a neighbor, and seemed genuinely shocked that I was not grateful to him for killing coyotes. (Spoiler alert: I like my coyotes)

Called the cops on him, they said he was a repeat offender. Including shooting at something and having the bullets whistling over a neighbor's outdoor party.

I'll add mountain bikers. I've seen them cruising on private property up dry creeks (non navigatable) and venturing off above streambeds following trails. They cut through unimproved vacant lots or sections of lots with natural vegetation. I had a real problem on one of my job sites & put up signs which were ignored daily. We were building berms for erosion control & re-seeding with native vegetation that these pr*cks just drove over & through. Called quite a few of these guys out on it & was met with indignation or feigned ignorance every time. Put up a temporary fence & they removed it so they could pass through. Not one apology. (Not to mention on regular public trails they tear ass around & don't yield to hikers like they are supposed to)

"We've always ridden through here"
"This should be public access"
"The landowner isn't even using this area"
"I didn't see the sign"
"We're just passing through"
"We have to go a long way to get to the main trail if we don't go through here"

It's funny isn't it.. on the road they ***** and moan that cars don't share the road with them and bull**** bull**** bull**** tears. On the trails, the shoe is on the other foot. these ****s don't yield to hikers, if they're going downhill, they don't yield to those going up hill, etc.

I hike and bike, so I get to have an opinion. My dog and I were out one day and this one dyke come flying around a blind corner and I literally put my bike into the burm and went over the handlebars to avoid her. Without even commenting on "are you ok" this ***** said "It's a two way trail" and kept going... yeah ***** it's two ways, why are you goign so fast around a blind corner.

Found the thread where I chased off the guy hunting coyotes with greyhounds. Thirteen years ago, I'm still mad at the guy.

I was observing a squirrel and coon competition in Illinois to watch the sire of our eventual dog. Each stage we had a local with us to take us out to different land to hunt on. On one of the coon stages the guide let it slip that he didn't even know whose property we were on a 11pm in pitch black with headlights and dogs. There were a lot of pissed off people in our group as a result as we thought we had permission to be on the land we were hunting.

We deal with this shlt constantly on our ETX lease.

The past 2 years the day after deer season ends we've caught guys running dogs on our cams. We've contacted the local GW and there's not a lot they can do because they can't ever ID them.

Well last time it happened he did manage to make an ID and actually knew who it was and approached him with the evidence and he copped to it. We asked him to serve him with trespassing charges but it never happened. The GW was all about it and actually said he was glad to do it because they needed to learn a lesson.

Well he got shipped to help the effort along the border and the other GW working our county took the ole 'Oh Jim Bob...Hell he's just runnin dogs he don't mean no harm' approach and that was that. Awesome

If it's a hog dog, they are going down. They've cut fences and messed with cameras at my neighbors place. I think word has got around about what will happen if they attempt any of that on my place.

We say this but at the same time I'm not sure I want to give hog hunters who know where our blinds, feeders, and camp are a reason to be pissed off.

We're not there often enough and it'd be too easy for them to come wreck havoc on our stuff. If they go where they please to get their dogs then they'll go where they please to get revenge.

It's infuriating no doubt but I'm not sure there is an easy solution.

I agree that's a problem. Like a lot of farmers, I have had 100s of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, unattended over several miles distance from the house.

You have to decide whether you will stand up to the lawbreakers, and take your chances, or let them continue to be a nuisance.

So far, the poachers and trespassers I've confronted or turned in, have not chosen to retaliate.
