Got an email with these:

Sports Afield 30+6 Electronic Gun Safe | Academy

Sports Afield 64+6+1 Electronic Gun Safe | Academy

I haven't done much research but need to buy one in the next year. Are these junk? If so, what recommendation for someone that has a few pistols and 4-5 rifles but would like room to grow?

They're fine for keeping the kids out of the safe. A determined thief can get through anything. Just a matter of time.

So, if you want super duper Texags safe - you'd need to spend 4-5x as much, minimum. But, for most - it'd be fine.

Get the biggest you can afford.

Only took me 2-3 years to fill mine and now I'm on a gun buying hiatus until I move.

Drill them down, make them heavy, have an alarm system, and a big dog.

Bolting it to the ground makes it a lot more difficult for your average theives to break into a safe. Not impossible, but more difficult. Combine that with an alarm system and it would be even better.

The biggest you can afford and the biggest you can afford to fill are two different things.

It offers security from a smash and grab and piece of mind that a child won't get into it. I recommend anchoring it to a wall in a hard to get to space. This makes it harder for a thief to get into it and get a glue on it. Given a few minutes and the right tools (long pry bar) 90% of safes are defeated.

Safe I have at home is 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide and is a level 8 safe. Had it bolted to the ground and is almost filled up with guns, ammo, and precious metals.

Looking into vault doors right now. Trying to convince the wife, to let me turn a spare bedroom into a safe room. Reinforced concrete on the walls and ceiling and internal video system that's not hooked to the internet. So far she's giving me the "are you f****** kidding me" look.

Might have to buy her some shiny diamonds and gem stones to sweeten the deal. Wish me luck.

For most they are fine. I'm more interested in fire protection than deek measuring on how much I paid for the safe. I'd like to have an 8,000 safe but the fact is that if I feel the need to have a safe of that build, then my time, money, and efforts are better spent finding a safer place to live.

She could keep her diamonds in there and say it's her jewelry box.

Thieves will cut the sidewall with a battery powered angle grinder. Then reach in and pull guns out.

Safe is great choice for deterring casual grab & run burglar.
Also fire protection for the contents.

I'm on a gun forum in which a member had his entire safe stolen.
Thieves drove a 4WD truck through his house exterior wall. Put a chain around the safe then snatched it off its foundation bolts. Pulled it through the wall and drug it behind the truck to a side road. They cut the side with a grinder or torch and pulled the guns out.
Some were legal machine guns.

He came home and thought an 18 wheeler had crashed into his house. A WTF moment.

It was organized by a worker doing some home interior upgrades.

Well, that sucks.

That's what happens when you post on a forum about how much stuff you have. Show em what you have so they can come prepared. I swear I've seen some users in some of these forums that literally post their safe rooms or safes wide open with all their nice pretty guns in them. I still can't fathom the thought process of that.

If someone has that much time, sheer will and the tools to do it, they CAN do it.....but....most do not. Driving into some ones house is a fairly rare occurrence. MOST thieves do not have that kind of will, tools or motivation.

It takes planning, the right tools and so on and I'm guessing someone got caught...or probably snitched.

For the most part, Safes will do their job and keep honest people honest. Something had to make that score worth attempting though and I'm guessing the homeowner was talking in front of the wrong person(s).

Get the biggest safe you possibly can. Bolt it to the floor if you are able to.

Best advice I've heard on the subject. Get one that's so big, if/when you ever sell the house the safe has to go with the sale. ......That still wont be big enough.

Or just keep her in there.

Get the bigger one. You will thanks us later. I bought a small one and it's too full now. It gives us some added piece if mind when we leave town to throw other valuables in there too.
