I'm looking to buy a hydraulic dump trailer. 16 ft with 24" sides. Bumper hitch, not gooseneck.

Any advice is appreciated.
What brand have you had good luck with.

Thanks!

My Dad has a Texas Pride gooseneck dump trailer, it's 3 years old and hasn't had any problems. He enjoyed being able to visit the factory and spec it exactly how he wanted, and they built it quickly.

We have a PJ trailer that we brought from Magnum in Austin
We abuse it and use it very hard. It's been great and has handled the wear and tear well

You meed to look at iron bull. It is built stout and has a large hydraulic pump /tool box built into the tongue. The roll up tarp sits flush with top and out of the way. I have 14' bumper pull. Whatever you get, make sure it has scissor lift for the bed.

What are you looking to haul?

I rented one with 30" sides and hired a guy who had to build extensions on his 2' sides. Always wanted bigger.

I saw an Iron Bull the gas station and the guy showed me why he liked it.

Why a scissor lift?
Another gent showed up to buy equipment and said he had a scissor lift that couldn't lift an equivalent load as a single cylinder.

Initially equipment.
Eventually sand and compost.

I was gifted a company bumper pull it worked fine, but the bumper pull limits what you can haul. I would rather have a the trailer be the limit than the truck that won't let me put what I want in the trailer.

Maybe the guy you talked to had an under sized hydraulic cylinder for his scissor hoist?

I am no engineer, but the fulcrum point on the single cylinder that is mounted under the bed is not efficiently placed. I used one before buying mine and it underwhelmed me. There are some that mount the cylinder vertically at the front of the bed so it lifts straight up. That sounds ideal for lifting, but the cylinder sits way up over the front sidewall. As you research, I think you will find that most manufacturers use the scissor configuration for the best performance and concealment.

Dump trailers are fantastic and really versatile. One thing to remember is that these things are not meant to perform like a dump truck. You can very easily get overzealous and overload a dump trailer, then have to spend time digging out and lightening the load to use the dump feature. I know from experience

I believe it was Texas Pride that made a video comparing their 3 different lift designs. The front telescoping cylinder outperformed the other two.

For material it is unbeatable. One Load trail salesman said for equipment you had to be careful bc the telescoping front cylinder would let the trailer tilt when loading equipment unless you put stabilizer jacks at the back.

Telescoping cylinder is probably the most efficient. To think about it, if you were going to try and lift the trailer by hand, where would you lift from? You would lift from the front, not the middle. Most dump trailers either come standard with the rear stabilizing jacks or they can be added. Definitely need them for equipment. Seen one dump trailer pretty much total the frame when a bigger bobcat skid steer was loaded on it.
