How long do you want to ignore this user?
My dog recently tore his ACL in one leg and has a partial in the other. We now live in El Paso but are more than willing to get the surgery done in BCS. We were quoted here in EP $9,890 for a bilateral surgery since we will be getting both legs done at the same time.

Was wondering if anyone has an estimated idea on what a board certified surgeon would cost there in the BCS compared to here. We only got approved for $8,100 on our care credit card so we were wanting to stay in budget of that.

hope to be back in CSTAT soon if all goes well with choosing a surgeon.

Thank you so so so much in advance Aggies

We had a weimaraner that had both done at different times about 2 years apart in Austin. First one was around 3500 and the second was around 3700. That was 5+ years ago, so don't know what the inflation is on dog surgeries, but that seems high.

Someone with better TexAgs search mojo might link one of my previous mega posts to help you process this decision.

Single side tplo by a board certified surgeon in a referral hospital in Texas is going to cost you around 5500-7500 depending on what practice you choose. If you can find my old post, not all services are equal - there's more to it that straight price shopping.

I would suggest tplo over cblo for reasons I won't get into here. That's a general opinion not a specific recommendation for your dog. I would also strongly caution against single session bilateral surgery. They have a slightly higher complication rate due to length of anesthesia and having to walk on both legs. Trust me on this I've done a bunch of bilaterals over the years and while you can get away with it and get lucky, if you have a complication that savings is gone and outcome may be affected. Some dogs have risk factors that make single session very high risk.

Would suggest arthroscopy as the treatment of choice for cleaning out the injured cruciate and checking and treating the meniscus. Again, This is general info about dog CCL decision making and not specific advice for your pet.

We can see you and your dog at aTm (you mentioned BCS in your post), perform an exam, take rads, discuss options, and do surgery, your dvm just needs to call in the referral. Let me know if you need my help w that. Best of luck.

EXTREMLEY high. I mean I know its going to be an expensive surgery 100%. but $10,000 is tough to come by. We are currently getting in contact with some surgeons in CSTAT to compare pricing. Have to go through the consultation process first of course.

Howdy DOC!!
I was fortunate enough to read the post you were referring to. I would love to book a consultation with you and further discuss his options. I will need some time to make a trip over there but I will do that ASAP. For one leg we are getting charged $5,715.00. I know you can't give me an exact price frame but if it'll be cheaper than that we will be on the road ready at your next available appointment. I can email or call your office once provided with that information!

You'll need to post some contact info that I can pass along to our schedulers. If you'll post your email or contact number I'll let you know when I have it in case you'd like to remove it from the post. Then I can reach out and we can get you scheduled.

We paid $7500 last year for TPLO surgery on one knee at Gulf Coast. Granted, the doctor that performed the surgery is sort of a pioneer/specialist on it, so you pay a premium price for it.
