The old guard was waaay less p.c. than the board is now. It had a locker room mentality and was the last bastion of that environment on TexAgs. A couple years ago some mod became aware of the "antiquated" goings on on the OB and came over here and frustrated the old guard enough that many left or got mad enough to be banned which probably meant many of them just quit coming altogether. I know if I ever got banned again, I'd be done here.

I lurked a long time before finally posting here. I always loved reading Ursus posts, especially about scouting stuff because my son was in scouts at the time.

Didn't some mod come in and shake things up and a bunch of OB vets started a private FB group and that's where the discussions continued?

I don't remember a mod screwing up the OB like they have the rest of the website.

To be fair a lot of the old guard just died.

One thing that turned a lot of people off the OB was several years ago the forum took kind of a militant turn. Every post was about guns, NRA, prepping, etc. and those themes would sneak into almost any conversation. A lot of posters were spending too much time on F16 and bringing that same attitude over here.

I think the las year or so the OB has been at its best. Better than it has been in years. If he OB disappeared I would never click on Texags again.

Last, I am not surprised the average age is 46. If it was 26 the page would be unreadable considering new army doesn't know how to read or write. (the kind of posts that make the OB the OB.) But nowadays everyone is offended.
