First Off, Not looking for any honey holes or insider trading tips.

However, with that said, looking for any general advice anyone may have for fishing Lake LBJ.

I grew up fishing in North Alabama; however, I haven't bass fished outside of some pond hoping since moving to Texas in 2015. I was able to snag a boat off a guy at the end of last year and finally got some updated electronics. So I'm hoping to get out and do some spring bass fishing.

Lake LBJ is the one I'm most familiar with; however, open to some light travel to try and find some fish.

If anyone has any tips, tricks, or general advice for fishing this lake (or any surrounding area lakes) it would be much appreciated! Open to discussing via PM as well.

My fishing buddy fishes it a lot without me. He says Colorado River Arm>Llano River Arm. That's all I know.

Thanks. Yeah, I assumed as much on that front, the Llano arm appears to die out pretty quickly from a navigability standpoint and Colorado's arm has a lot of docs and a few coves/inlets. So I'll definitely plan to hit that arm for sure. Thanks!

Once it starts warming up the lake turns into a washtub rife with water fleas and pleasure boats of every ilk, especially on weekends. Early and late is best.

Can Fish south crazy early.....then it turns into Waterworld with all the wake monster boats. Then start heading up river mid morning. Docks and bulkheads with crank baits and spinner baits. Down each side.

Later in the summer when grass and lillies start filling in pitch deep into that stuff. But be ready to pull out some gooduns cuz they are there.

When it gets very very hot.....go way north....brave the rocks and go up past the Boulder field. Then it's just regular creek style, going down the banks, bass fishing territory with no boat traffic.

There are sak-a-lait brush pikes all over. Find em and enjoy.

One of the best red breasted sunfish fisheries you will find. My favorite.....

Main lake holds some really big fish.....in March and early April you'll be looking at them! Throw some shakey heads and wacky worms around the docks in deeper water...especially if it's a bright sunny day.

I grew up on Lake LBJ ...... it was called Lake Granite Shoals back then. I have seen lots of changes in that lake over all those years.
The best ever fishing was when it had lots of aquatic plants back in the late 60's. Then they did a massive fish kill, drained the lake and killed most of the aquatic plants so it would be a more popular boating and skiing lake. Land sales took off and now you have boat dock city and pleasure boat heaven.
When there is lots of boat traffic i night fish once the boat traffic has stopped for a couple of hours.
Get you a good map and find the secluded coves and creeks.... they are still there.
Go up the Colorado....cautiously go upstream above the rocks towards Inks dam.
There is a large cove on the north side of the lake before you get to Kingsland. It used to be named "Chevy Cove"..., it goes way back under an old railroad bridge.... I use to win tournaments in that one cove alone.
Use your electronics with sidescan to find rock outcroppings and hit the older unkept boat docks.
LBJ is still a very good fisheries!

Chevy cove is over-rated. Not worth the trip. Pass it by.

Seriously, LBJ is a beautiful lake with some decent fishing. We got zebra mussels about two years ago. Really changed the water. Last summer we had a major aquatic plant bloom. Maybe it's related to the mussels. Doesn't seem like the plants died back much so far during the colder months. Might be good for fishing. PITA if it's your dock and boat slip that's getting clogged up.

The Colorado can be a real gauntlet in a smaller boat during busy season. LOTS of very large boats running fast with lake fleas piloted by young mariners jumping wakes and not paying attention. You can get some big rouge waves since both sides of the channel are concrete wall and the waves don't dissipate like they normally would on a regular bank. Some gorgeous lake houses up there to look at. We mostly stay off the lake on weekends and holidays during summer or get out early. Spring and Fall are our prime time.

be sure to visit our very own Statue of Liberty on the sandbar at the confluence.

rather be fishing

If you want to catch a Guad, go as far up the Llano arm as you can.

Zebra mussels cause a big summer plant and algae bloom. Happened in Lake Travis too. The nitrates from zebra mussel poop supercharge the water for plant growth it seems.

Like Gunny, I remember it as Lake Granite Shoals. I learned to water ski on that lake as a kid in the early to mid-60's. Fishing was good, mainly just drowning minnows out of Cottonwood Resort. I don't think hardly anyone fished with plastics back then. Not sure when Nick Creme developed and began to popularize plastic worm fishing, but not too long after. Of course one of my first girlfriends was a majorette for the Marble Falls hs band so had other distractions.

Dont bother to show up on weekends on LBJ. Especially this year so far. With Buchanan and Travis down, this place will be covered up with wake boats. Colorado arm is plumb dangerous during the day. I'm just up Llano arm and don't get why everybody with a $300K wake boat comes to Llano arm for morning glass. Great ski location until they show up. Why don't wake boats go where the waves are, they don't need glass like skiers do.
We got pushed into bank last year by moron weekenders pulling a tube behind a $300k wake boat. I was pulling my 4yo granddaughter on skis and they wanted to watch too close. Idiots.

For fish we run down around Granite Shoals area for Crappie or find rocks for catfish eating Zebra Muscles. I'm not much of a Bass fisherman, but do meat fish.

Yes, I saw a guide above the rocks on the Colorado this morning in crab style boat. He had 12 customers and they were pulling them out left and right on live shad.
