Looking for some contacts to do a replica mount on saltwater fish. I plan to CPR any fish large enough to want to mount - don't need to do a skin mount.

Anyone have experience with doing a replica mount on trout or redfish?
Who did you use?
How did it turn out?

Want to make sure I get the information needed (Length, girth, ??? ).
Plan to take a lot of pics if it happens - anything specific needed to show detail?

Seems like the going rate is $15/inch - Does that sound right?

I used. David Turnage out of Bellville years ago for a replica for my dad. He did a great Job. I dont have his info anymore or if he even does this anymore. Girth, lenght pictures for sure. Dont have any pics on phone of the mount so you can see.

About 5 years ago, My buddy caught a 8lb trout for a tourney here in corpus and we won some nice prizes that day! Long story short, after getting shafted over by a local taxidermist in town he sent off for a replica made here and absolutely loves it. Highly recommends them.

Thanks for the recommendation with experience. When I searched saltwater replica fish mounts New Wave Taxidermy was the first on the list. Wasn't expecting someone out of Florida. will give them a call.

I've used King and they are very good.

Since a FL taxidermist has been recommended, here is the shop I used.

Back in 2013 I caught a big bull dolphin and had it mounted. I used Gray Taxidermy out of Pompano Beach, FL. They were awesome. It helped that I was living in South Florida at the time so I was local, but they are nationally known. They were great to work with though. I gave them the measurements (length, weight, girth) and sent pictures. From there you can pick the kind of mount you want and any add-ons. They will also use the pics you send in and work with you to try and paint it as close as possible to your actual fish which is awesome. I will always recommend them. They were great and easy to work with.

Will do. Got a 4 day trip to Pt Mansfield middle of February. Best chance I've had at trophy trout in a while. Going to spend a lot of time on water….

The timing on this post couldn't have been any better considering I caught this big bull this weekend.

I didn't get a girth measurement, will that be a big issue?

I don't think it truly matters. I think you can just give them length and a picture. I believe most of the reds are actually forms just like whitetail but not sure they have as many options in girth.

$1649 + 1 year wait + postage for my 48" x 24" girth red

Call Sailfish. They were half of that and it took them 6 weeks.

We ordered from King Sailfish Mounts last week for a 50" bull dorado. As mentioned, it takes 6 weeks.

I used BPS several years ago for replica of my wife's 46" red. Sent all the measurements and several pictures. Would give it 8/10 overall. Size and color replica good, missed the shape of the spot which was disappointing. Otherwise pleased.

Wish there were more pics on this thread. All I've got is this tarpon I salvaged from my neighbor.

He knocked it off the wall and broke all the fins off, then gave me the scratched up body. l made new fins and covered some holes/scrapes, but the colors didn't match, so I painted the whole thing silver. Still working on a few details, so it sits here most of the time.

I've looked at King, Gray, and New Wave extensively for dolphin, permit, bonefish, and tarpon, and think King does the best - although they still have room to improve.
