Have had a couple people recommend Coolina knives as Christmas gifts but haven't seen this brand mentioned in any of the knife threads. They look cool, but website looks like a facebook special. Any info appreciated.

I looked at their website. Couldn't find out where the knives are made. When a company will not mention where their knives are made, it often signals that they are made in either Pakistan or China. I would put my money on Pakistan. You might consider contacting them and asking where their knives are made, if country of origin matters to you.

At any rate, they seem extremely expensive for cheaply made knives.

I was given one this week as a gift. Super beefy. Sharp for what it is. I could not find any markings of origin.

They're designed in Serbia and made in China.

I guess I don't see what difference it makes. If it holds a good edge and seems well made, I don't care where it's made. I am not in the camp of 'buy American' if America is going to charge me twice as much for a comparable product.

Depends on the steel. I looked at their website and tried to find out what steel they use, but they only state "high manganese steel clad steel", and in some parts they state "high carbon steel". In the vast majority of knife companies, if they use quality steel, they will be proud of that and will state which steel they use on their websites.

I don't have any problem with Chinese knives. There are some excellent knives coming out of there right now, and $ for $ they have better build quality than some USA-made products like Case. All of my daily carries are made in the USA (well... also have one Italian and two Russian, obtained before those idiots invaded Ukraine), but I also have a handful of Chinese pocketknives that are wonderful in both materials and construction and are therefore worth the money. The Coolinas might be made of some excellent steel, but I would not spend that much money for one without knowing what they are made of.
